Wouldn't you leave the stroller?
Re: Wouldn't you leave the stroller?
well, depending on how long she had before the rain hit, it can take me longer than it ought to get Buffy out of her stroller--the safety straps are hard to unfasten. I'd probably assume if I had 15 seconds I'd have better odds of wrestling the stroller out of the way than of unstrapping her)
(although, if that's the case, that train was damn close when she started across)
( ETA other articles are talking about this being a common tragedy and the RR companies trying to prevent it...
http://www.pe.com/local-news/breaking-news-headlines/20111009-riverside-family-shocked-by-tenants-death-on-train-tracks.ece
I live near a place wherethere are train/pedestrian accidents often and the whole "oh, we try to prevent it' party line makes me stabby...the RR companies don't want to put in safe crossings and think that putting up barriers and making pedestrians wait 45 minutes to cross tracks is appropriate.
So I take that w/ a grain of salt.
Because EVERY college student who has ever commuted to LocalUniveristy has climbed across tracks whe the train was there--hell, they've fricking climbed between cars on (very slowly) moving trains while carrying their bikes. Because the other option is to wait an hour. It's a dumbass thing to do but they have limited and only dumbass options)

What the ?
First of all, why would you be trying to get your stroller across if a train is coming. Did she try to cross the tracks really quickly so she wouldn't get stuck waiting for the train? And if she did that, it would have been faster to pick the whole stroller up rather than trying to cross with it. Strollers get stuck on everything.
This story just doesn't compute. And yeah, I'd just try to get the baby out if it became too close.
Logic doesn't always apply in life and death events.
This is the worst kind of armchair quarterbacking.
So very sad. They said it was a commuter train, and those go very fast. She probably didn't have time to think straight.
Two weeks ago I was on a train that hit a man trying to cross the tracks, it happens way too often around here. It's really sad, especially because 99% of the trains on the tracks out here are commuter trains. The gates are down for no more than five minutes while they pass, so I don't think there's as much incentive in beating the train across the tracks.
