Question of the day

You and the tooth fairy...

- was it a tradition in your house?

- was there a special container to go under your pillow?

- any fun memories?

Re: Question of the day

  • Tradition was to put the tooth in a glass of water (weird, I know) and set it on the entertainment center.  We usually got a quarter or fifty cents.  When I was in fourth grade we were in CA on vacation.  I was eating an apple and out popped my tooth!  I guess due to higher cost of living in CA I got a whole dollar and a pack of bubble gum. Smile  And I am pretty sure that I still believed in the Tooth Fairy at that time!  I held on til' the bitter end and found out by catching my mom do the transfer in the morning since she had forgotten the night before.  I was a little sad even though I knew in my heart that "she" wasn't real.

  • No special box, just put it under the pillow and the next day a shiny quarter would appear.

I don't have any special memories about the tooth fairy.

Yes, tooth fairy was a tradition (for as long we we did the santa claus thing too).

There was no special box.  We set the tooth on our dresser in our bedroom, and got a quarter or fifty cents (I can't remember) left in it's place by morning.

  • Did someone lose a tooth or have a loose tooth????

For Maria, we have her put the tooth in a jar of water.  Then, in the morning, the jar of water's color changes and sparklies are in it along with a gold dollar coin (which then gets lost and gets reused).

Whoa, fancy!!!  I'll have to remember that!

  • Yep it was tradition.  I would put the tooth under my pillow, then the next morning there would be some form of money.  I remember a few times there was was silver dollar, but most of the time it was paper dollar.  (I was excited about the silver dollar!)  A few years, I would wake up and look and there would be no money.  I would tell my parents who would then have to go look for themselves because they insisted there was no way the tooth fairy would forget.  And lo and behold they would find the dollar, it somehow had gotten shoved in my pillow case.  Wink

  • I remember having a little pillow that had a pocket that I stuck the tooth in, put it under my pillow. The next morning something was left. I had a canopy bed and once the fairy had fun clipping a dollar bill to the canopy.
  • I think 2 of Willa's teeth won't make it to Christmas.

We had a little round wooden box.  Our toothfairy was cheap (only coins after the first missing tooth), but you know, there were 4 of us, and it was in the olden days. ;)

Tigers the sparkly water is fun!

    Ahh, I love this idea!!

  • We had a fairy with a little purse or pocket. It was actually a purfume bottle from Avon. I think we got a $1 in quarters.

We picked up a  book/pillow set from a book store on clearance a few months ago for the girls.  We made sure that we got two sets so they each have their own.

  • I'm seeing Tooth Fairy doors all over Pinterest:

  • Tigers, your idea is awesome--so creative.

I remember getting money, but not any consistent amount.  I also don't remember ever *really* believing in the tooth fairy or Santa Claus.  My mom would be so dismayed to read this, for some reason she finds my cynicism about my childhood upsetting (I wrote a paper in high school was pretty disdainful of the whole "santa" routine and my mom felt like she had failed me somehow).  Really, I just don't think I was the kind of kid with a bend for the magical and my parents weren't the types to put that much effort into convincing me of such things.

  • We had a small pillow that had a fairy printed on it and a little pocket to tuck the tooth.  I remember getting paper dollars mostly.

The way I found out there was no tooth fairy.  As a kid I had to have 8 baby teeth pulled by the dentist.  All the teeth were given to me, and for awhile I kept them in the tiny plastic chests the dentist put them in.  One day I decided to test the tooth fairy and just randomly put a tooth under my pillow that night without telling anyone.  The next morning the tooth was still there, so I knew mom was the fairy.  I don't remember being hurt or shocked.

  • The Tooth Fairy was a regular at our house. There was no special holder. We just put the tooth under our pillow. The first tooth out got us a silver dollar. Each tooth after that was a fifty cent piece.
