  • To confirm, is the question "Would you ever..."?  If that is the case, I would lean more towards No, I wouldn't but even then I would still be open to moving, depending on where and the situation.  My family moved A LOT when I was growing up (think: new girl every year from 5-9th grade) but we pretty much always came back to the Seattle area every other move and I've known Seattle is my home.  It's not too big of a city, but it's not too small, it has a good variety of people, no major common natural disasters, and mild temperatures (yes, the rain can drive me nuts after a while).  But I've known since I was a kid the Seattle is where my heart is. • I voted SS..because I moved to Seattle knowing that I would eventually move. Not because I don't like it, but because that's the nature of the beast with DH's career.

  • I chose SS.  I was born and raised here, and I love the physical location:  the weather, the mountains, how green it is, etc.  Plus, my parents and friends are here.  BUT, our family values, political stance, etc., fit much better in different parts of the country.  Also, the cost of living makes me want to barf sometimes.  I have a girlfriend in Ohio that bought a sweet house for, I'm serious, 49k in like 2006 when the market was still high.

TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.
  • Once we have kids, we're probably not going to move (much). I moved a lot as a kid.

And as much as I love Seattle... if someone gave me the chance to live in Manhattan for the rest of my life in some swank condo on Columbus Circle? I'd be there in a heartbeat. :P

  • I did move away for school and thought about staying on east coast, but came home.  DH is from east coast and likes it here but of course would like to live there too.  So, we talk about it...as well as CA or Hawaii.  But, it'd be hard b/c I have a business here, all my fam here, and love it here.  I think more likely we'd get a second home/condo some day if we can afford it or once we've retired or semi-retired.  Too bad the east coast isn't a sunny place to escape to.

ETA:  Actually DH is obsessed lately with the idea of moving to another country someday.  I think that's very unlikely, but maybe someday...  Any major moves would probably be after our kids are grown.  But, then I'd still want a home base here.  Guess we better be rich!

  • I want desperately to live in Manhattan, at least for a few years.  I know i've pretty much missed the ideal window for that, but i still really want to.

I'd come back to the PNW, though.

Because I grew up in Maryland I have several friends who chose to move to NYC (Manhattan and the outter bourroughs). I don't even really like to visit. I immediately feel bad about myself b/c I'm not a skinny and well-dressed as everyone else seems to be. People are fast and mean and don't make eye contact when you talk to them. It's hard to find any peace there. It's just overwhelming to me. DH loves it though but he loves cities. I kind of regret not living IN Seattle before we settled down in Bainbridge just to have a city life experience. We probably missed that opporunity but when we first moved out here I didn't have a job and I don't think we could have afforded it.

    Where'd you live in Maryland?

  • We'll see how I fare this winter. I've already started feeling down and a bit claustrophobic with all the overcast and rainy days. I'm not complaining... I know that's normal for here. We'll just have to see. H understands and has promised that if I can't hack it, we'll move some place more sunny next year.

Is this your first year?  Winters can be rough and this summer was less summer-y than normal.  DH had trouble adjusting at first and still doesn't love the rainy season, but he's adjusted and overall likes it.  He's been here 5 years; I don't remember how long it took him to adjust.  After living on east coast 3 years, it took me a while to adjust back too.

  • I put SS.  We plan on leaving within the next few years, but not because there's anything wrong with living here.  When we moved here three years ago, it was always with the intention of moving back to Colorado eventually.  It's where DH was born and raised; his mom and some other family are still there; his best friends are there (and I have good friends there, too).  It's just home to us.  So we'll probably move back within the next 1-3 years, depending on DH's job and when we're able to sell our house.

Yes, this is my first year. I just moved here in May. I enjoyed the summer, mostly because I didn't have to deal with the super high temps of the east coast. I grew up in FL and moved to NC a few years ago. The winters there are pretty mild, similar to what I've heard here is like, but I was diagnosed with seasonal affective disorder within 3 years of living there. I take vitamin D, spend lots of time outside when I can (which is pretty often), and have used a sunlamp in the past (which didn't help me). I've even tried seasonal antidepressants, which I reacted badly to. I wish it was a simple matter of adjusting to new weather patterns - I'm about as easygoing as they come.
