Teachers NC or SC

I am looking going into teaching in the next 2 years. I know the job market SUCKS now but I am hoping for a turn around.

I have a B.A in a unrealeated field (minor in Education) so I have been looking at the programs offered by both states. We plan on moving along the state line in about 15 months.

Anyone benefits to NC or SC????  What do you think is the most marketable? I HOPE to teach PK, K, or early elem.

  • I teach 2nd grade in NC. The benefits are pretty good, but make sure you really want to go into teaching. Not to discourage you but, teaching isn't what is used to be. There is a lot of crap we put up with that doesn't involve actually teaching. I'm looking to get out of teaching.

  • Ditto what PP says.  I wouldn't encourage anyone to go into teaching, especially if you didn't go to school for teaching.  I'm also looking to get out of it.  It's more drama and paperwork than anything else.   The money sucks, and other then the summers off (or trackouts depending where you work) I don't think the benefits are that great either.  As an initally licensed teacher with a bachelors in elementary ed I make less than 30k.

  • Do you know what the job market is like for middle/high school science teachers?  I have a CA credential for both elementary and secondary science and 2 years experience (middle school science)...

I know in CA science teachers are in higher demand than other subjects...is that the case in the Raleigh area as well?

  • I teach elementary and there were jobs but very few. In the past secondary science teachers were in high demand, but in the past few years, it is very unlikely to find a job in the Raleigh area.

  • Thanks for the reponses ladies.

I understand the state of the teaching world right now. I really do but I have wanted to teach for over 5 years now. Yes, I may not be happy once I get there but this is something I have a strong desire to do. I understand the market is bad, it's bad in many occuaptions. I am prepared for all of these things.

I was really asking if teaching is any better in North Carolina vs. South Carolina.
