Boring but something!

What is your schedule/routine/whatever for housekeeping?

Re: Boring but something!

  • I pretty much pick up everyday (clothing, dishes, clean hard surfaces). I vacuum twice a week (we have all hardwood and a cat, so its necessary) and dh does laundry probably three or four times a week. Bathroom stuff once a month (clean shower/toilet).

  • Currently it's do the dishes, keep everything tidy (I always tidy up before going to bed), launder everything on the weekends (sometimes more but always sheets and towels then), and leave a check out every other Thursday for the housekeeper to do the rest. :P Not sure whether I'll keep that going for much longer though, as I don't have a problem keeping the house clean when it's just me.

IF you are asking because you are hoping to get a better routine going:  I feel like the biggest thing you can do is just train yourself into the habit of tidying up a bit frequently. My mom always said "everytime you go into a room, pick something up", meaning each time you improve the room in just one way. Also, having small stashes of cleaning products (like to wipe down counters) in the room itself helps tremendously because you don't have to leave and come back. Just makes cleaning more convenient which makes it more likely that it will get done. Also, see if scheduling those every other week/monthly cleaning jobs helps the process and set up a reminder on your computer. That sort of thing.

  • We tend to be really lazy all week and then do a big cleaning on Saturday and/or Sunday. If I have free time from school (like today) I'll also try to do some tidying too.
  • We used to do everything in one day when we lived in the apt but now that we have a house, our cleaning schedule has changed. We focus on one room a day.

    Here it is:

daily-dishes, trash/recycling, make bed, clean cat boxes, wipe down/clean stove & countertop

    Mon-kitchen/laundry area

    Tues-living room

    Wed-Bathoom/Hallway

    Thurs-Bedrooms

    Fri-Sun-laundry and the outside

If you need more specifics, let me know. I am AR about this b/c if we do not establish a routine, it will be me doing it all in a weekend and honestly, I rather spend time with my husband than cleaning our house.

  • I am horrible at keeping the house clean, so I am probably not the best resource, but I am getting better!

I focus on keeping up on clutter and dishes/trash every day. Make sure no food/trash/extra junk gets left at the end of the day.

Then on weekends I do all the laundry, DH does the garbages, we both vacuum/clean up.  Bathrooms are usually once a month too, for the big things.  I like to keep Clorox wipes around to clean up every couple of days for the bathroom countertops.

  • I feel like I am cleaning all the time, but it still seems like nothing is clean enough!

Daily: dishes, pick up the living room after baby goes to bed, wipe down kitchen (stove/counters) after dinner, recycling

Laundry gets done every 2-3 days.  We use cloth nappies for DS, so I am doing a lot more laundry these days for him.  For DH and I, usually 1-2 loads on the weekends.

At least weekly: vacuuming, clean bathrooms

  • Daily - clean the litterbox, wipe ktichen countertops, wash dishes, trash/recycling.

Twice per week - pick up the dog presents in the backyard (we have tanbark in the back but once we get sod put in, that will be scooped as soon as she's done doing her business), vacuum & water the flowers.

Weekly - laundry (including bed sheets and dog bed), dusting, clean floors scrubbing bath tub, shower and sinks.

I try to do a little each night because I don't want to clean my entire weekend.

  • Our routine is "clean/declutter when people are coming over or when one of us can't take the mess anymore." I don't think that's the answer you were looking for  :)
