Poll: Have you ever had a pregnancy scare?

A time when you thought you were pregnant but it turned out you actually weren't.

I'm working on a paper about this now which is what got me interested. (No worries---I'm not studying you. The data's already collected, this would be a dumb way of collecting data, and I'd need your permission to do so any way.) I'm just curious because I've been having sex for 15 years now and never had a pregnancy scare. I think that might be abnormal.

[Poll]

Re: Poll: Have you ever had a pregnancy scare?

  • I've never had an actual scare where I was late or missed a period or anything. But, I'm a paranoid weirdo and have taken tests when my period was even slightly off (ie: early, too light, etc.)

    ETA: I picked SS.

  • Special Snowflakes--feel free to explain.

I think there may be a third category called "not really" but I'm not sure yet. I suspect this is when people are a couple of days late but have been contracepting faithfully and kind of think "What if....?" but aren't super worried because they realize how unlikely it is given the failure rate for their preferred method is really low.

Yeah, this is probably me. I picked "yes" but I fit more into the category you're mentioning here.

  • Many!!  My period has never been regular, but I would still freak out when it was late.  I took quite a few pregnancy tests.  So, by the time I actually became pregnant, I honestly didn't think I was.  I was tired, throwing up and 2 months late before I finally took a test and only b/c DH talked me into it.  I was in denial, I ended up taking 5 tests and staring at them for 3 days waiting for the results to change.  I was a bit freaked out.

Maybe it's not so weird, then! It's just silly.

I've done this as well.  H is always making me paranoid that I'm pregnant.

  • Put me in the not really but sorta category too. Particularly since I've had an IUD, my hormones have been out of whack several times and there was at least once I was convinced I must be because things just were not right at all. I've taken tests a couple times, but never because I was not using BC and thinking I was actually pregnant.
  • God, no. I have always been super, super, super, super careful.  Like, insanely careful.
  • I voted no, but while we were dating DH was always super paraniod that I was. Eventhough we were super careful. I was on BCP and we used backup.I was late one time and he thought I was pg but I knew that I wasn't. I did take a test just to shut him up.

  • Um, yeah.... all the time. Is that not normal? lol.
  • I voted no.  There was one time when DH and I were dating and my period was about 1 day late.  I had an "oh sh!t, what if..." moment, but I didn't actually think I was pregnant.  I was on bcp's and we were using back up, so I was just paranoid until AF showed up later that night haha.  The only time I really thought I was pregnant, I was.
