I'm getting married soon, and my fiance goes into bootcamp feburary first. I dont know what to do or how to handle. I'm also trying to get the marriage the day of bootcamp graduation, but eloping in illonois tho im a new york resident is proving hard. So any help with eloping information and/or help.advice with being a military wife would be appreciated.
Re: New Military Wife
I'm not really sure what your question is about the elopement. Are you trying to get married the day of his bootcamp graduation?
As for the other things, some of the girls on this board have a link to the Military Nesties FAQ in their siggies. Definitely check that out and come back with any specific questions you have. Lurk around here too, there is a lot of helpful information posted regularly.
About the elopement. Check Illinois policies on marriage licenses. If I remember correctly you have to get the license and then 24 hours later you can turn it back in, but you can't do it any earlier. I was looking to do the same thing, but definitely look into their policies.
And like Meltoine said, keep busy while he's gone.
Please be aware that many training unit Commanders issue orders banning people from getting married while on pass or durring Family Day and the day of graduation.
I would highly suggest you wait until he gets settled into his first duty station and then set a date.
What do you mean by that?
Please don't go to bartending school expecting it to help you get a job as a bartender. I've been tending bar since before it was legal for me to be behind a bar. I've spent many years as a head bartender and bar manager. Most bartending schools are scams and most bar managers will not hire people who have been to bartending school. You'll learn more and get a job tending bar faster if you get a job as a bar back instead of going to one of those "schools". Besides, many bars will start you off as a back anyway.
I'm curious about this also.
Red flags.
Abort. Abort. Abort.
Abandon ship!
I do admit to a small amount of empathy for people looking for insurance. It's really freaking hard to come by for many in our country. If marrying gets it for you, who am I to judge? I know I'm now uninsureable on private insurance, and I'm pretty damn healthy.
Waiting a few extra weeks/ months for him to get to his first duty assignment isn't that big of a deal. In fact, it may make it easier on him in the long run. I couldn't imagine in processing a base as a first time enlistee while trying to figure out how to move my spouse to where I am.
There was a guy in my brother flight that got married on our first town pass. I thought they were beyond nuts.
Really? Like reading, writing, watching TV, knitting, running, couponing, hanging out with friends, and photography aren't any of your hobbies. Unless your only hobbies are flying planes, scuba diving, and eating 14K gold then at least some hobbies are "plausible".
Hey all - with the recent budget changes many branches have disallowed new recruits with dependents - also specific MOSs have dependent restrictions. I am assuming that is what this individual is speaking of.
I am going to be a *Beep* and say this means nothing to me unless I know how long you've know him. And then I would ask if he wanted to be in the military before you knew him.
It seems you got all your answers on elopement. Best of Luck to You.
