Is anyone doing an "October fest" theme dinner

I need menu ideas for an October fest theme dinner for 10.

Brats/sausage, sauerkraut, maybe rolls and/or dark bread.  German chocolate cake?

what else?  salad? potatoes(but not necessarily German potato salad)

Re: Is anyone doing an "October fest" theme dinner

  • What a great idea! What about an appetizer of beer cheese and pretzels?

  • No, but now I want to! :) Great idea.

Found these fun party ideas that might offer some additional suggestions for your menu and general party planning:

  • I have never had an Oktoberfest dinner but I have thrown an Oktoberfest party.  We supplied different sausages (grilled), sauerkraut, sauerkraut balls, pretzels and beer cheese and other people brought things as well.  A Black Forest cake or Bavarian Cream Puffs would be a nice dessert. One friend brought a german soup (can't remember the name). If I were doing a dinner I'd probably do a pork roast or beer chicken.  Rye bread, pickles, etc...  I did order a beer mug and pretzel chocolates mold and made small chocolates for everyone.  That was a hit.  Ohhh...cheeses.  There are many German cheeses (butterkaise is my favorite).  Provide a good/quality German beer and some German Rieslings (yum).

As for German Chocolate Cake...that's not German. Just google it's "history."

  • how about potato dumplings? green beans and spaetzle? DH is German (grandparents moved to the states after WWII), so we do a German-themed dinner a few times a year. Soooo yummy!
