So ready to pack up and head home today

We made the move here because DH thought he'd be happier in his job, not so much.  But I've been telling him to suck it up, we moved and we are staying for a while.

Well two things happened. 1) we got an insurance bill last month for over 1000 Euro.  We were told we would not have insurance until our residence card came in, which was in like Aug and we moved here in Feb.  Well they billed us RETRO!  No one from his HR told us this would happen and everytime I went to doc, I just paid for it.  2) DH's contract paid for DS to go to school.  Well, he's not school age and his HR sent us an email saying they would consider daycare/pre-school as school and pay up to 5000E a year and was told to expense it.  Today her gets an email that the 2000E that he expensed is denied.  The person who handled his contract isn't with the company anymore and should not have made that decision.  I still have over 1000E more to expense to be denied.

This is like 4000E in the matter of 2 months this move has costs us.  I'm beside myself.

  • The insurance thing I am not understanding so I have no idea about that.

As for the schooling, I would be PI$$ED!  Was it stated in his contract about the schooling?  If so, I would be fighting that hard core.  It's not your problem if the guy isn't there any more.

  • I would definitely fight this - you moved based on what you were told (as long as you have it in writing).  The company needs to suck it up and deal.  Then as you are paying retrospectively for insurance, you ought to be able to also put in your expenses...if not, then you have to fight the company on this as well.
I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • yea I'd totally fight it - that SUCKS that they are changing their policy now

like pineapples said - do you have it in writing I hope??? Good Luck!!

  • if you have it in writing that is not your problem their employee went outside of her authority.  Have husband forward the email to current HR and if you have any problems use the free dutch lawyer you are entitled to and have them intervene!
  • I think your H and my H must work for the same company. We are still trying to recoup about $12K of expenses, many dating back to June. YGTBFKM. I'm really sorry that you're dealing with this, it is totally frustrating.

ETA: I agree with PPs, hopefully you have everything in writing (thankfully we do). Just keep fighting for it. In our case, we are just struggling due to a slow, incompetent process and I am pretty confident that we will get paid eventually, it is just annoying to have to float a large corporation that much cash for that many months!
