Grrrr - Roommates

We had an outside room that we left our for extra money, they have there own bathroom at the back of our house and we all share the kitchen, we rent it out to help with our mortgage.  They have their own entrance etc, so everyone has privacy.

We have had a mix of people living there, but all of them we are still friends with.

About 7 months ago we got a sweet Japanese couple.   While we were on holiday in August, they broke up and the girl, Yukari moved out, leaving us with Yoshi.  Yukari was awesome!  Yukari is not.  He lost his job, hasn't paid rent in three weeks, went on holiday on Saturday with some friends, and left his keys in the back door!!

I would totally kick him out if the house wasn't on the market making it harder to find another one.  Rant Rant Rant!!

Re: Grrrr - Roommates

  • Oh man, that really sucks. Can you guys garnish wages in Australia? Considering that he may know your hands are bound with kicking him out, this may be your solution... Maybe he will get scared of being sued and will pay. Good luck. Sending you Nestie vibes :)
  • KAAAAATH! You seem to have the lousiest luck when it has come to renters! Poor girl.  I agree with ejakiela, there must be a way to make him pay.  After all, he signed a lease with you didn't he?  Doesn't he have repercussions when he pays late??

Orrr when he doesn't pay at all?  Blah.  Poor you. :-(

  • Had a talk to DH tonight, and we are just going to pin him down and tell him he has to be out in four weeks, and remind him about the rent.  He isn't nasty, just slack, and obviously broke.

Maybe when the house sells DH and I will Finally be able to live just by ourselves.  Big Smile
