Wording resume gap

Kind of an odd situation here...

I worked for company X from 2008 until 2010, when I quit to pursue a different degree in school (not related to company X) and help my FI with his restaurant (he is owner).  I was rehired, part time, for company X back in July this year and am still here.  The job is only 25-30 hours per week and I am seeking a FT job now.

On my resume, how can I list that I have worked here, in the same position, but on two separate time periods with a gap in between?  I don't think I should list my helping FI with the restaurant as it doesn't apply to the type of work I am seeking, but I don't want to just leave a gap. (The gap is Sept 2010-July 2011)

 Any advice?  TIA!

Re: Wording resume gap

  • I'd list it as

    Company X               2008-present

    Job title                    July 2011-present

    Duties and accomplishments

Job title                    2008 to Sept 2010

    Duties and accomplishments

I'd address the gap in your CL as time you spent to pursue a degree in [field].

  • Thanks as always Dr. Loretta!

Just one other question, the degree I went to pursue I decided to, well, not pursue anymore.  It would not have any connection to jobs I am searching for.  Should I still include it in the CL?
