Ordered my supplies for homemade vanilla gifts for Christmas :-)
I didn't get to do this last year and I just loved the idea. So this year, I made sure to get my supplies early. I can't wait for them to come
Anyone do this last year? How did it go, did people like it?
CJ :-)
Re: Ordered my supplies for homemade vanilla gifts for Christmas :-)
I got them through specialty bottle (clear boston rounds - 4oz). the shipping doubled the price buy it still wasn't bad at about $24 for 12 and it was cheaper per bottle if you ordered more but I only needed 12
Everywhere else was more $$$. I looked at amazon at the time but they only had the droppers. I see now they have the brown ones as a 12 pack for $10.00 so I would have gotten them through there if I knew and added more to get to $25 to reach the free shipping.
I do like the clear bottles though. Let me know where you get them,
I made some for myself last year and I love it! It lasts so long, and I love knowing whats in my extract- no chemicals, additives, etc.
I ordered some bottles and plan to make some this year for gifts
Anyone have any suggestions on making your own labels???
I made vanilla for Christmas presents a few years ago. I used a big bottle (maybe a gallon?) of cheap vodka and maybe a dozen vanilla beans. I split the beans lengthwise and started mascerating the beans in around September, but I'm sure it's not too late to start now. Funny thing, though: As I was dividing the bottle of vodka with probably $50 worth of vanilla beans into separate pint bottles for giftgiving, I dropped the damn thing on my ceramic floor. What. A. Disaster.
On the upside, my kitchen smelled fabulous for weeks. And I got a couple of bottles poured before I dropped it, so I know it worked great. It never got as dark as storebought, so I was a little worried it would be weak, but it was not. Good luck (better luck than I, anyway)!
