Would you buy from a gypsy?

This is what the woman said to me when I came to my door.  I just shook my head no, for any other reason than, I am sick today and do not want to deal with people.  But my question is:  What does it mean?  Would you buy from a gypsy?  I do not know enough about the culture for it to be a specific question.

I am going to say this with a disclaimer that I don't think it is every gypsy (and by this I assume she meant an Irish Traveler or a Romany Gypsy) but they are known to be thieves and scam artists so no, I probably wouldn't.

ditto. i think dh would be really annoyed if i bought something from a gypsy. he's got some fairly strong opinions on them...

I would and I did. I use the same reasoning and precaution as with any other seller (i.e. would not buy a trinket or fake flowers). Some are incredibly good at woodwork and when I was small my parents would regularly buy wooden kitchen utensils from one gypsy family.

A gypsy spit on me in the Moscow metro so no. I'm bitter for life about that.
