Downsized

Anyone watched? I have a problem with this family.

They have not seemed to understand and learned from what they went through. I mean braces??? come on!!! its not a need its a luxury. Like botox, boob jobs and nose jobs. I am sure she can get braces later on in her life. Hell when she can afford it herself.

They should be using the little money they have for real problems or start back again the Efund.

Thoughts?

Re: Downsized

  • I haven't watched the show closely for a while.  I think they make a lot of the same mistakes over and over again with their money.  I think they are trying to keep the show going so they are purposefully going back in the red.

I had to have braces because of the structure of my mouth.  Had I not had the braces I would have been on a liquid diet.  So I can't judge this family on why they feel the braces are necessary.  It could be a lot more than just a vanity complex.

Doubt this is the case and that is for vanity for 2 reasons: first the wife wanted to sell her wedding ring to pay for it and the husband didn't agree. He even said that if it was for an emergency or a transplant that he would agree.

Second she asked one of the other daughters if she wasn't glad she got to get hers. If it attempts to your health or life I am all for it but they keep bringing stuff that they "need" which they actually can live without. I guess they are doing it to keep the show going.

  • I don't watch this show but wanted to add to what pp mentioned about braces, they aren't always for cosmetic reasons....I needed braces when I was young to correct an overbite. I had naturally straight teeth but my bottom teeth dug into my palate and made my palate swollen and bleed for me it was a necessity.

Not saying the person in this show is in the same boat but putting braces in the same category as a nose or boob job may not be accurate.

  • I think Laura still hasn't adjusted to their new lifestyle. She wants things to be the way they were, but not budget better. Did anyone see the episode where they went on the raw diet for awhile? She spent like $75 on fruit and vegetables. Obviously not a good choice financially.

  • Most kids I know didn't get braces for vanity reasons. They were typically to correct an overbite or other underlying problems. If mine weren't corrected by braces, I wouldn't be able to eat properly and would have been in a lot of pain. Braces totally suck. They are extremely painful, difficult to clean, and you don't look very cute with them for the two years or so they are on. Your mouth isn't something to mess around with.
  • They annoy the heck out of me and yet I continue to watch the train wreck.  They seem very irresponsible, and continue to make bad decisions over and over again.

  • Did you see where the mom said she wanted the kid to get the braces just because her other kids got them when they needed them?

I agree that they continue to make the same mistakes. Are they paying for therapy? I would think if they were in such bad financial shape that they'd get help from a pastor or the like instead of shelling out the money.

  • I agree. This didn't seem like a need.

Braces are a luxury for good portion of Americans even if they are for medical reasons and just b/c the other kids had them doesn't mean that you should get them for that reasons.

Plenty of adults get braces b/c their parents wern't able to afford them as a child.

For me it annoys me that they discuss everything with their kids. Openness is great but the kids should not be dealing with their parents marriage problems. I also would never tell my kids that we couldn't get something b/c one of their siblings got sick. I'm sure they can figure it out for themselves but I would never announce. That's too much to put on the child. I stopped watching after that.

No, the woman is doing it pro-bono.

  • I just watched the newest episode with Bailey getting abused by her new bf. WTF? I feel like Laura didn't really get all that upset about it. I know in the next episode Todd goes ballistic & seems to try to handle it.

Just wasn't happy with Laura pu$$ing out.

Ditto this. We DVR the show each week and watch but it is like  train wreck. That is probably why keep watching.

  • I don't think Laura handled the Bailey abuse issue well at all.  First, she should have taken her in private and looked at the bruises, looked for more bruises, and talked with her to be sure she wasn't sexually assaulted, etc.  Bailey probably didn't want to talk about it in front of everyone else.  Second, call the police.  This is a crime.  Don't go to someone's house who is capable of abuse--let police handle it.  Third, call Todd.  It's an emergency and he should be notified immediately.

  • Sorry that this is so random, but what channel is downsized on? And what time (Im in the midwest) I've seen previews for this show, and I really would like to watch it, but I can't find it. I know it used to be on TLC and they dropped it I think, right?
