Re: DSLR

  • I've got a Nikon and love how easy it is to use! The reason I choose to get Nikon over Canon was because for someone who want's to get into using DSLR's Nikon was going to cost me less, and it takes fabulous pictures as well.

  • I have a Canon Rebel EOS D1000, and the only reason I went with Canon was because I have had their powershots for as long as I've had a camera, so the transition to the DSLR was easier that way. I love my camera, but I wish I would have spent the extra $50.00 to get the one that was a little bit better and recorded movies. It is a serious PITA to be switching back and forth all the time.

Also, I suggest (if your camera of choice doesn't come with one) buy a DVD on the basic rules on how to use it. It will teach you how to use the basic settings like your F-stop and shutter speed properly, and show you how to properly use AV or TV mode . If you simply put it on manual and shoot away you might as well have a point and shoot with more mega-pixels, because you're going to have just as nice of pictures for half the price.

  • I have a Sony A33. We chose the Sony over other brands because it has an LCD pannel that shoots at the same speed as the viewfinder-most have a small delay, thus causing it to take longer to get a picture when using the LCD screen to view your subject. This was important because S and I wear glasses regularly and we hate putting the viewfinder up to our eyes when we have our glasses on.

I don't really have any con's....we looked for about 2 months, hit up every local camera shop in town, tried out a ton of cameras, and this is the one that worked well for us.

  • I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT. (I think the XSi is their newer model) I've always been brand loyal to Canon because it's easy to use. I chose this model initially because it was not as pricey as the other models. With all the lenses and add ons you can get it is a great camera though.
  • I also have the Canon Rebel. I am not sure which model it is. Matt got it for me for Christmas, so he is the one that did research. I will say that I love love it. My favorite thing about it is that the battery life is amazing. I had to charge it last week for the first time in almost a month. In that span I probably took close to 1000 pictures.

Honestly, we leave it on auto focus a lot, just because it is easier. Matt plays with the focus settings more. Either way the pictures always come out great!

  • I just wanted to add, that if you don't know go to a store where you can play with the camera a little and try several different ones. Ask about the Pro's and Con's - They are usually more than happy to tell you/help you out. This way you'll get the camera that is the best fit for you!

Or check out Ken Rockwell's website. He has a ton of great info on there!
