1 year anniversary gifts

I can't believe it is almost November!! And worst of all I have no clue what present to get DH. We said we wouldn't go crazy and yet I can't think of a thing. I am usually much better about this stuff. We plan to go to dinner.

Are you getting your DH anything for your anniversary?

Re: 1 year anniversary gifts

  • H and I haven't swapped gifts in, oh, 5 years?  We still do something special for our anniversary (our dating anniversary was November too) and birthdays, but no actual gifts.

It seems silly, to us, since all of our finances are merged.  It's usually more of a "oh, I've been wanting this for awhile. I'm going to splurge on it for my birthday" than anything else.

That being said, one of H's friends is getting married in Milwaukee the weekend of our anniversary.  We decided to make a mini-vacation out of it, so we found a fancy hotel and we'll spend a few nights there.

  • He wants either a clock for his '59 corvette or a blu-ray player. I haven't decided which yet. His birthday is the next day. So I'll get one pricey thing and a couple of small things most likely. We also decided to book the new Radisson Blu in Chicago for a couple of nights to get away.

  • I don't think we're planning on exchanging gifts. Well, DH was supposed to be getting me another ring (I only have my wedding band and he promised me another ring for our 1 year anniversary). So we'll see if that happens.

Other than that, I think I'm going to book us a room at a hotel in downtown Chicago and we'll spend the day in the city. We haven't actually done that as a couple ever.

  • We're going to take a small vacation. We talked about whether we would exchange gifts but I don't think we decided. I'd like to get him something small and in line with the traditional gift of paper...let's see if I can think of anything interesting!

I am so jealous right now!  I really wanted to do a vacation - even a small one - but with DH's school schedule it just isn't gonna happen this year.

I'm getting him a new gun... redneck, I know.  But, a couple of months after we got married, he told me how his mom gave his dad this certain kind of gun for their first anniversary, and he wishes he had it now (his dad is deceased) and how it'd be neat if I got him the same kind for our first anniversary... so I am.  I don't think he even remembers having that conversation though - I'm hoping he's super suprised!

I mentioned presents last night, and he'd totally forgotten about the need to buy an anniversary present.  He said if I want something, I have to tell him what to get, because he's not good at getting presents.  This is petty, but I'm a little sad because I kind of wanted him to just think up something on his own.  But, that's not the guy I married, so I better get over that huh!

I totally feel you here - hubby usually asks what I want, and I give him several options of things I've been eyeing when it comes to b-days or christmas.  It for sure gets old at times.

For our anniversary we're going to dinner at the restaurant we had our reception at - but we're not really doing gifts this year.  I cant believe how fast the year has flown by!

I just saw your sig - I'm so sorry for your loss. If you haven't already, the MC/PL and TTCAL boards were an absolute God-send for my miscarriages.

  • I have 2 ideas for DH:

    1.  Find the sheet music from our first dance and have it framed

    2. Found this on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/listing/72210652/1st-anniversary-paper-anniversary  Using the lyrics from our first dance song and a photo of us during our dance. ....considering this more since someone else is doing the work  :D

  • We're not, in stead we're splurging all of our "free" fundage on relocation to North Carolina. Dave got a job (halle-freaking-lujah!), so two weeks from today, we'll be moving halfway across the country.

Of course, I have every intention of buying him a little something, but I know he's so wrapped up in finding a house and packing our cr@p that he will forget we even got married. Very single minded, that one.

And for those ladies whose husbands aren't capable of "figuring it out" for themselves, I feel ya. Well, I mean he can find the PERFECT gift without my help... but he has to then IMMEDIATELY give it to me. Can't keep a surprise to save his life.

  • We are going to Puerto Rico the first week of December, so I think that will be our anniversary celebration/gift.  Between November and December we have Christmas, Thanksgiving, our Anniversary and BOTH of our birthdays.   I think we will just be doing one gift to celebrate all of the gift giving occations.  My DH wants a remote starter for his car.  I am thinking I will have it installed while we are on our trip to Puerto Rico, but it will probably be a Christmas/Birthday gift.

Congrats in the new job for him! And that's a big move! Are you excited? nervous?

that's a great gift! In fact that's what I wanted for some occasion last year, and guess how slow I am? I already had it and didn't know!!!!!! It came with my car which I had for almost 5 years at that point!!!!! UGH! At least for a few of those years I had a heated garage in our apt building and wouldn't have been using it, but that's no excuse for my stupidity really. DH said he still gave it to me as a gift since he figured it out LOL

  • We agreed on no gifts this year, because we're going on a cruise (belated anniversary trip) to Mexico in January, and the final payment is due on the 10th (five days after our anniversary).  So we're doing cards, and going out to dinner at the restaurant of the hotel where we were married.

  • We are just keeping it simple.  H wants a money clip and I would like a new purse.  We wanted to take a trip to New Orleans (my family is from there) but it'll cost too much.  We are sinking all of our extra money into savings and baby stuff.  We may do a big trip for our 5 year anniversary.

  • We just got back from our honeymoon/anniversary trip.  We went to Peru (DH had always wanted to go there, and I love traveling just about anywhere) and it was great!  We did a lot of hiking, saw some really interesting things and places, met some great people along the way, and the food was AMAZING!

For our actual anniversary next week, we're going out to dinner and having cake from the place that did our wedding cake.  I might get DH a card, but his birthday is in a few weeks, and then there's Christmas, so I'll save any gifts for then.

  • We've been working non-stop, and sadly, I ran out of time on Dh's gift. :( I thought he too wasn't going to do anything for me. The place we had our reception at though gives you a complementary dinner on your 1st anniversary. We had a fantastic time revisiting our venue (typically a private club). Then Dh surprised me with a pair of diamond earrings. I guess I'd been talking about how I wanted some studs I could wear everyday that won't turn my ears green. :) I had no idea I even vocalized it, but he says I've said it a million times? It's funny ladies, because my Dh was NOT that romantic in our dating days, but each year he gets mushier and mushier and more insightful??
