What do you wear to baby showers?

Not your own - as a guest.

Do you wear a dress, skirt, jeans, pants, etc.?  What about other guests?

Re: What do you wear to baby showers?

  • hmmm... i have always worn a dress or skirt, but i would think pants and a cute top would be fine as well....

depending on the style of the mom to be...you could even do jeans and a cute top....

i don't think they are as "formal" as bridal teas and such....at least the ones i have been to or hosted...

  • I try to gauge my attire on how well I know the mother, her style of clothing and go from there.  If she's always a jeans and shirt kind of girl, I would probably wear dress pants.  If she's a girl that's always put together, dressed to the nines and always has her hair and makeup perfectly, I would probably wear a dress, LOL.  Does that make sense?? Although recently I've seen more showers go casual, and a lot of chicks have worn nice dark denim, a cute shirt/shirt w/a cardigan and some heels or something.
  • I'm just wondering if it's a regional thing.  I guess I feel like most of the showers I go to here are more on the formal side... not necessarily fully formal, but at least a little dressier.

I always wear dresses.  At my SIL's baby shower, though, virtually everyone was in jeans.  I was baffled!

  • I would never wear jeans to a baby shower - not even dress/dark denim jeans.

I'd probably wear a dress or a skirt of some kind...

Where was your SIL's baby shower?  I'm from the Northeast, and I've never heard of anyone wearing jeans to a shower up there...

  • I don't think I have ever worn jeans to a baby shower....most of then ones I have gone to are more dressy...the most casual I have ever gone was a pink skirt, black top and denim jacket with black flats for my cousin's shower because I knew it wasn't too dressy...
  • yeah....i have no idea....

i can say i have only been to maybe 2 baby showers in my life...and one i hosted....but to both of them, i was in a skirt or dress....however, i think i recall a few guests of both of those showers, in jeans....

  • The shower was in Seattle.  She told me the night before that everyone would be extremely casual, so I had to change my plans on what to wear.  Oh, and this was not any redneck shower, if you get my drift :P

  • I hosted a couples shower back during the summer, people were swimming, wearing shorts, playing poker, horse shoes, drinking beer ect. VERY CASUAL
  • yeah, i think if it is that casual...the invitation should set the tone for that so that a guest can know what to wear.... i can see how that would be frustrating because i do think that most people think to wear dress clothes...

Which makes it even more ridiculous that I was in charge of invitations!  LOL

LOL!!!! AH! And you weren't told how most people might come! Geez... that really sucks!

    I know that was frustrating....

  • I usually go business casual - a dress or skirt or dresspants with a cute top

    Siggy coming soon....
  • I usually wear a shirt, dress or a pair of dressy pants and a cute top. I would never wear jeans to a shower. I think you should at least be a little dressy when you are going to such an event.
  • because it's geeting cooler out i would probably wear dress pants and a nice top...during the summer a dress or skirt for sure
  • I like wearing dresses or something pretty and easy.  The last three I went to I wore

    1. Navy dress with tiny white poka dots

    2. White pants and lilac fitted tunic top

    3. Dark jeans and a bright orange sweater (but I also knew the mommy would be wearing jeans)

  • It depends on the person. But usually nice jeans or khakis and a cute top and dressy shoes/sandals. Oddly enough most showers I've attended were when I was pregnant myself so it was lots of babydoll type tops and capris. I've seen people wear anything from jeans or shorts and t-shirts (that I could never do) to dresses. I would wear a skirt or dress if I knew the mom was usually more dressy.

I really didn't care what people wore to mine (as long as it wasn't something streetwalkerish)... I had tons of other things on my mind. I was just happy they were there.
