XP: Crockpot pulled pork question

I have a pork butt (shoulder) in the crock pot. How do I know when it is done? The recipe online said 20 hours, but many of the reviews said 5 hours (on high) or 10 or 12 or 16 hours on low in a newer crock pot. So, really, I have no idea.

 TIA!!

Re: XP: Crockpot pulled pork question

  • 20 hours? Yikes!

Poke at it. It should shred pretty easily when it's done.

    Have you seen my monkey?
  • Poke a fork in it. Twist. If the meat shreds or falls completely apart, it's done. If you can't pretty much destroy it with a few good pokes, it's not done.

I've never had anything not be done in 8-10hr, but my crockpot is not new. If new ones take 16-20hr, that doesn't seem like an improvement!
