Little Rock AFB

Hello ladies. I couldn't sleep so I thought I would post something on here. My husband who is deployed right now just got his orders yesterday and we are going to Little Rock. We are not moving til March but I think it would be a good idea to start looking for some good places to live. I've never been to Little Rock so I don't know anything about the area.

I would really love to hear some advice and suggestions from y'all.. Thanks ladies and have a great day!!

  • If you have kids, you'll want to be in the Sherwood or Cabot school districts, unless you're doing private school.

Cabot is about 20 minutes north (with traffic) and more of a small community, while Sherwood is closer to the city (and the jobs, if you're looking for one).

If it's just the two of you, and you'll be able to look before you sign, you can find nice areas uber-close to the base.  Behind the school off of Redmond Rd has nice, small rentals.  About 2 minutes from the main base entrance is the Foxwood Country Club, which is a nice area with bigger houses (Madden Road).

Little Rock is warm, which is nice.  The entire base shuts down when they risk flooding, which is once/year as well as for any ice what-so-ever.  The city is...dirty, but can be fun if you're careful.  Be sure to check out the piano bars while you're there.

  • I grew up in Little Rock (lived there for 21 years) and love it. I have to disagree with the poster who said it was dirty. There are definitely areas you want to avoid but that's just like any other city. Cabot is a nice area with good schools as well as the North Little Rock/Lakewood/Sherwood area. Those are close to the base. A town called Maumelle is a really nice area. It's a little farther from the base, about 25-30 minutes, but a great place to live. Downtown has fun piano bars and bars. If you need to know more specifics about the area let me know.

I agree with you. That's just like any other city! I've been looking for houses/apartments for rent. How's winter in Little Rock? Currently living in Wa right now and it get pretty snowy on winter here. Thank you so much for the info and I will definitely let you know if can think of something.
