Giant gift boxes for outside display?

image

How could I make that to put on an uncovered porch? I don't think contact paper would be weatherproof enough, would it? I'd love to do these for the Christmas season.

Re: Giant gift boxes for outside display?

  • Where do you live (i.e. what elements will they be exposed to)? My first thought is to paint rather than wrap, since the paper definitely won't hold up. You could easily use a stencil for those patters in the picture. But, cardboard in rain or snow would still be problematic.

  • Fabric? If it's exposed to a lot of sun, pretty much anything would fade. I suppose an outdoor fabric would be the best bet.
  • We're midwest, so it's snow and rain I'm worried about in December. Maybe plastic containers with outdoor fabric -- that might work.

You could probably just build a cube frame with plastic plumbing pipes and joints- should be cheap, too! And you can easily dismantle them for storage. :)

Please PIP them when you're done- it is a cute project! If I have time (ha! :) to make some, I'll try!

  • I love this!!!  If you do it, post lots of pics!!!

This is what I was thinking.  What about wood cubes with outdoor fabric?  You could make the cubes out of plywood cheaply.

And you could even screw them together to make them more sturdy if they are wood instead of cardboard.

In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity
