Anti-depressants

Anyone on anti-depressants?

About 5 years ago, I was on Celexa for depression and it worked but I was dead from the neck down, and I felt like I wasn't a real person. So they switched me to Wellbutrin, which I had taken for 3 years. It worked, I had a sex drive, and I felt normal on it, and then I started to feel much better so I went off of it and had been off of it for 2 years.

I started back on Wellbutrin this August because I had been having axiety attacks and depression with all of the life changes that had been going on. It doesn't seem to be working at all, though. I'm still having crappy thoughts and having trouble getting out of bed in the morning.

My question is, and I know that no one here are doctors, do any of you know of any anti-depressants that work, don't kill libido, and help with anxiety? Or if you had good or bad experiences on certain ones? I just emailed my doctor to ask if we can change meds, so I'm waiting on him...

Thanks in advance if anyone could give me some insight.

Aye karramba.

Re: Anti-depressants

  • I was put on Zoloft to help cope with depression resulting from my divorce shortly after I found out my ex was cheating.  I'm being weaned off of it now by my doctor since I've progressing past it.

How did it make you feel? Just curious, and I know they affect everyone a little differently.

  • I was on zoloft for about 2 years.  Although I felt better while on it, I noticed that after about 2 years, the "feel" good feelings started to wear off.  My dr. then prescribed Celexa and it has been my miracle for the past 1 1/2 years.  I haven't notice a drop in my sex drive, my depression, mood swings and anxiety has been really good since being on it.

  • I was on Prozac right after my divorce. I don't think it affected my sex drive much.  It just made me feel like I could do things. Before I could only lay on the couch. After being on Prozac (and getting past the super sleepy stage) I had the drive to get up and do things.

I highly suggest NOT drinking alcohol while on it though haha.

  • Wellbutrin 300XR or whtever the one pill dose was worked for me but when I got anxiety it wasnt enough. Zoloft really helped w anxiety but gave me vertigo. Ubfortunately it took me 4 years to realize it was the Zoloft that was doing it. Other than that it was great and easy to taper off of as well. Med free now. Also exercise helps a lot. Now if I dont work out I get antsy and angry.

I agree with CLW that the "feel" good feelings seem to be wearing off now that I've been on it for 1.5 years.  I didn't have any side effects thought.

  • I'm currently on a low dose of Celexa and love it.  Hated Zoloft - had a heck of a time weaning off of it too.  But I gather each drug affects each person differently.  I hope to wean off when I feel fully able to handle all my anxiety.  I combine the Celexa with therapy, exercise, and healthy eating.
  • I am currently on Prozac and Wellbutrin 100SR to counter-balance the sexual side-effects of Prozac and it has been working GREAT!

However, I will never be able to go up on my Wellbutrin dose if it stops working. I was on Wellbutrin XL 300 for almost 2 years without any problems, but last year I felt like it was not working as well and my Dr upped my dose to 450 (which is the max I believe), well 2 weeks after upping my dose, I had a grand-Mal seizure that was found to be caused by Wellbutrin... so please please please be careful.

But we feel safe with 100SR dose with the combination of Prozac. Prozac seems to give me energy and the push I need to get out of bed in the mornings and Wellbutrin is great for giving me my sex drive back Big Smile
