In-Laws are coming to town...

So the in-laws are coming to town next weekend (from San Diego) right before Halloween...and I want to plan some fun Fall-ish activities while they're here. I was thinking of visiting a pumpkin patch one afternoon, and maybe hitting up Percy Warner park and breakfast at Loveless Cafe one day...any suggestions for other things to do around Nashville this season?

They've already been to downtown Franklin, The Hermitage and downtown on previous visits...

Re: In-Laws are coming to town...

  • How about the Jack Daniels Distillery...south of Franklin I believe.

I think Cheekwood has been dressed up for Fall.

Also the Nashville Symphony is having a Halloween themed show that night.

  • Haunted Tavern Tours is a fun thing to do around Halloween. You don't have to drink at any of the places but its fun to hear the ghost stories associated with places around downtown. I think its worth the money.

  • My parents went to Arrington Vineyards last weekend and really enjoyed it.  I guess it's good to bring a picnic there and it's beautiful so that might be fun if they enjoy wine.  It's Kix Brook's place and right outside Franklin.

As for pumpkin patches, Gentry Farm (off 96 in Franklin) was really nice.

I'd recommend Cheekwood too.  My best friend got married there last November and it was so beautiful!

  • There's also several corn mazes around. I know of one in Spring Hill. I second Arrington if the weather is nice. They even have live music until November.

  • Third on Arrington here.  JD distillery is in Lynchburg.  For most people the easiest way to get there is to go down 24, although you can take 65 too.  It's a little over an hour from Nashville though so a bit of a trip.  While you are down there you can stop at Miss Mary Bobo's for a true southern meal, or drive a couple of minutes to Tullahoma to go to Crockett's.  Both places have JD based dishes.

  • If you feel like a little road trip to Adams TN, how about the Bell Witch play.  Tour the area, see the play, bring a blanket, hot drinks and such are all passed around.  At least that's what my friend said.  I'll know for sure soon enough ;)

Reserve tix early if it sounds like something fun to do.  If you get to the area early, like 4-4:30, they serve country-style dinner for a nominal fee (they run out fairly quickly, from what heard too)

  • Centennial Park is GORGEOUS when the leaves are at the perfect color. ?Not sure if we'll get the pretty colors this year, but I hope so. ?I was jogging one day last fall, and the sky was beautiful blue, the grass was green, and the leaves were shades of red/yellow/orange. ?I literally said to myself, "Do I really live here? ?Is this really my life?". ?You could always get a picnic lunch from Bread & Co, eat at the park, then browse the museum inside the Parthenon.
  • Thanks for the recommendations! :)
  • You could also drive the Natchez Trace a little. The trees at this time of year are gorgeous. Also, there's an orchard in Mt Juliet where you can go apple picking.

You might check the community calendar in your paper and see if any local places are having a Fall Festival...I saw several ads for some in my paper today.

    Hope this helps,

    Erica
