honda pilot?

if you have one, do you like it? pros/cons?

an area dealership has been a client of dh's for over a year now and the manager has offered a deal on a pilot. dh has looked and likes it, but i haven't had the chance yet. i'm intrigued by the 3rd row option with ds on the way....

Re: honda pilot?

  • The people I know that have them love them.

  • We looked at it and loved it.  when we were looking though there wasn't a whole lot of movement on the price and the gas mileage was eh so we didn't get it.

If you can get a good deal on the price I think you'd really like it.

  • My dad and my SIL both have Pilots.  Both love them.  My dad spends a lot of time hauling grandkids around, the backseat is nice and roomy and fits carseats well, no install problems like I hear Tahoes have.  He usually has a Britax rear facing for DS, and there's still enough room in the backseat for me and DH to fit.  The third row is kind of small, but it's there if you need it.

SIL has three girls but they're older so I think she actually uses the third row more hauling her girls and their friends around.

My big boy is bounding towards 3! Hoping to add a sibling. image Hipster dog is not impressed.
  • My dad and step mom are on their 2nd Pilot.  They upgraded a couple of years ago when the new body style came out.  They love it!

  • I love mine. It was a big change for me from the Ford Escape, so I've had issues adjusting to the size (I'm also under 5' tall so that is probably the reason). We mainly use just the 2nd row but the 3rd row has come in handy several times during family outings with all adults filling the seats, and comfortably.
  • I have a 2004 (the 2nd model year) and like it. I will say we've only used the 3rd row once. It is a PITA to get to when there are 2 carseats in the 2nd row. But it's a nice smooth ride, gets good gas mileage for the size, and has the safety and reliability of a Honda. Next car, I want to go smaller though. That's just me though. Nothing against the Pilot itself, I just don't want a big SUV anymore.

  • I have a 2009 EX-L and like it.  We love Honda and wanted a 3rd row, so we really didn't look at much else.

I wish it had a power tailgate, but the 2012 EX-L does (touring model always has).

We only have 1 carseat right now, but I agree that the 3rd row would be really hard to get to with 2.

  • I have a 2007 that we got in 2009.  I love mine.  I love the 3rd row option, just in case, but it's not too huge where I feel like I am driving a boat.  I like that the 2nd seat moves forward and back, in case you do have ppl in the 3rd row, you can give them some more room.  Also, the 3rd row folds down flat, so lots of storage in the back when you need it.  Did I mention that I love it?  ;-)

ETA:  I am curious to see how it's going to work with 2 carseats, too.  My guess is that it will be hard to access row 3, since the carseats will likely be on each side, so you won't be able to pull the seat forward to get someone back there.  I have had ppl get in the 3rd row through the back hatch (usually kiddos) b/c you can just put up the 1/3 or 2/3 seat, so they woudln't need to climb over the seat, just around it - if that make sense.  I don't know if any SUV will be easy to get to a 3rd row with 2 carseats, though - so I don't necessarily see that as a Pilot problem.  You would need to have a minivan or an SUV that can pull out the middle section if you always wanted easy access to the 3rd row.

  • My husband has a 2006 Pilot and loves it.  That model year had a smaller 3rd row, but the newer models have enough room for an adult to sit in the 3rd row.  We haven't had any major issues with the car (or any of our Hondas).  I would get another one if our garage was another foot wider.
