Professional Expectations

I am writing a paper for my degree planning class and I need to get some outside perspectives on the professional expectations of someone with a Business Administration degree. I was hoping you ladies might be able to help me out. Smile TIA!

Re: Professional Expectations

  • This is a bit vague.... do you mean, what would a prospective employer expect?
I swim because I'm too damned sexy for a sport that requires real clothing.
  • Sorry...yes, what would a prospective employer expect an employee with a bachelor's in business administration to know?
  • When I interviewed for financial analysts (I was mid-management at a bank) I looked for the following for my entry level positions - I split this into knowledge and ability. The reason why is that knowledge can be gained as you learn a job (for example, when I graduated from college, I had basic knowledge of financial/accounting principles, but learned about banking principles as I learned the job). With abilities/skill - some people do certain things better. Like, I have the ability to shoot a basketball, and with practice can learn to do it better, but some people have that ability to hit a shot 99 out of 100 times.

    Knowledge:

    • Basic knowledge of accounting/finance principals and concepts

    Ability/Skill:

    • Ability to write well (if I didn't have a cover letter handy, I would ask if they could send a writing sample)
    • Ability to speak well to people of all levels. I didn't want a shrinking violet if they were meeting with executives and I didn't want someone who would talk down to the interns or receptionists.
    • Competency and knowledge of MS office suite
I swim because I'm too damned sexy for a sport that requires real clothing.
