Ideas needed...

I'm having a couple of ladies over this weekend for a game night. I want to have some snacks on hand, but for some reason I am struggling to come up with ideas. There will only be 4 of us, and we'll be starting well after dinner (7:30 pm). I think I'd like to do something fairly light to go with the wine we'll be having (not sure what kinds yet, as we're each contributing a bottle to share). All that is coming to mind is a fruit tray....that seems so expected.

Re: Ideas needed...

  • Maybe some humus and veggies? Or you could get some junk food, candy bars and oreos.

  • Add a cheese and bread sampler to that hummus and veggie tray and I would be a happy camper.

  • My new favorite drinking snack is toasted naan.  I buy premade naan at costco, top with olive oil, salt, pepper, and very thinly sliced garlic, and bake about 20 minutes.  Heaven.  I actually had that for breakfast today with edamame hummus, also from Costco.

Cheese works, too.  If you want to go fancy, you can do a baked brie with sundried tomatto and pine nuts.

This spinach dip (all I add extra is diced artichoke hearts) makes me the hero of any potluck.

ETA I wouldn't think 730 was well after dinner.  I would think it was right at dinner time, so you might want to have some heavier food unless you explicitly state it's a post-dinner gathering.  I have friends calling me to go to dinner at 9 (which is too late for me), so I'd never assume everyone had eaten by 730.

  • Don't forget the chocolate. Dark chocolate and red wine together? Divine.

A cheese spread; brie, goat, gouda, sharp, etc. and the "good" crackers, baguettes and/or bread.

Grapes and strawberries are natural fruit selections.

Perhaps a dipping sauce composed of EVOO and parmesan and rosemary mixed together?

This sounds great! I would be in heaven.  Dark chocolate, wine and cheese, what could be better?

  • Thanks ladies!! I think a cheese plate is a great option, don't know why I didn't think of it. I don't have a whole lot of experience with hummus, but I think I'll see if I can't find some at the commisary and give it a try!

I guess I forget not everyone eats as early as we do. I'll have something heavier on stand-by.
