WDTY? baby name

No, I'm not pregnant but a girl on my FB feed just posted about her nephew, Deklyn.  WTF kind of name is that?  Granted they live in Alaska....but has anyone heard of this name?

Re: WDTY? baby name

  • I've seen it spelled properly, as in Declan. It's Irish. That spelling is horrible. To the nth degree.

  • Its Irish, but I don't think I've ever seen it spelled like that.  I know 2, and one has an Irish last name so its pretty cute.

Ok, so it's a real name?  Way to white trash it up!

  • Yeah, I don't mind it as Declan, but I'm REALLY not a fan of youneek spellings.  Ick.

    This.

Which is why I'm absolutely terrified about my future neice/nephew's name. She likes to be youneek.

    Sigh.

  • I like it with the correct spelling. Why do parents want to put Ys everywhere!
  • eww.  I hate when people ruin good names with their dumbasss unique spellings.  I like it spelled the correct way - Declan.

No idea but to me putting a Y in a name make it more feminine.  I don't know how it's pronounced but with the Y it looks like "--lynn"

  • I know someone who just named her daughter Carsyn. Ugh. But Deklyn! Couldn't it at least be Declyn?
  • I've always liked Declan, but Deklyn is a ridiculous spelling.

  • I like the name Declan, but made up spellings make me want to gouge my eyes out.
  • I like the original name, but that spelling is icky.  NMS at all.

  • OMG I HATE weird spellings of normal names

that poor kid will forever have to correct people & tell them how to spell his name!

  • Ick!  So wrong on so many levels.  That said I bet fewer people will mispronouce Deklyn vs Declan.  My son is Declan & back in the US his name was mispronounced all. the. time.  I've gotten Des-lan, da-clawn, and (my favorite) dee-clan.  Why yes, cranky old RN in the doctor's office, I did name my son after the KKK.  Tongue Tied
  • I agree with you that it looks more feminine now. At least it's not a girl (IMO).

I'll be honest, I had no idea how to say Declan until I saw Kyle XY where one of the characters had that name. I thought it was like duh-CLAN instead of DECK-lan. I like it a LOT better now that I know how to say it!
