Dudettes, there was a black widow spider in our yard
DH found a black widow outside today right by our house... I'm soooo creeped out. Are they common in the Upstate?

Unfortunately, yes--as are Brown Recluse. They both tend to lurk in cool dark places (like shoes left out by the back door, or weird corners of the garage).

Yeah unfortunately they are extremely common. There are some spider sprays you can use to spray around your house. I'm not sure if they work on black widows but its worth a try.
Probably not the thing to share, but about 4 years ago while I was helping my mom put up the Christmas Tree we found one. After we separated all the branches and started putting them on, we saw it crawling across the floor.
I actually think it was both. I think the tree sat in the garage, until my parents decided to clean it, then it went up to the attic.
I also have some of the worst arachnophobia! I become paralyzed when I see spiders. Just this thread is making me have goosebumps and my heart is racing.
