You crack me up Smile

I have a Nikon D3000. Extremely entry level, affordable and it worked great for getting me introduced to photography. I would've been content to use it for a few more years, as I have two other lenses aside from the crappy kit lens. I have a 50mm and a Tamron 28-75 (LOVE that one!)

I'm upgrading to a D5100. I was split between the D3100 and the D5100, but the price difference isn't that much (I'm buying the body only), and the 5100 has way more features. I'm stoked to be getting a DSLR that has video capability and has the screen that will swivel all around to get some great shots without having to contort by body into weird positions!

  • Wooo!

Well, I shoot Canon, so I'm not as familiar with the Nikon models, but it sounds like your upgrade will be awesome! :) It will probably make you start jonesing for more glass too, right? Haha! I agree to skip the kit with the new body (though I don't know what they kit the 5100 with anyway), but you could maybe even throw in another cheap prime with the savings? If you wanted, that is :)

I'm assuming you take a lot of pictures of your kid? What else do you shoot? Having video capability will be fun! (My 5D doesn't have it)

  • I'm already jonesing for more glass...but the lens I want is $700 Embarrassed so it'll have to wait!

I primarily shoot DS, but I also take a TON of candids at various family events. We had a 3-day family reunion this past summer and I took nearly 1,000 pictures. I was kind of obnoxious, ha!

I'm trying to get more into the artistic aspect of photography, so I've been shooting some images of BF's John Deere collection (he and his gpa have like 30 antique tractors that are in perfect condition), outdoors shots, etc. I'm still very new to all of it, but I LOVE it.

    What do you shoot?

  • Do you use FB? I have a TON of my photos on FB if you wanna be friends....

  • The John Deer "study" (haha) sounds cool!

I'm usually the same way with candids at holidays/family functions, etc. Smile

I just do a bunch of "lifestyle" shooting at the moment. I take my camera with me when I hang out with friends, etc. I love to shoot when traveling, obviously. On my trip with The Artist next weekend, I'm definitely excited to see what kind of photo opportunities present themselves.

I have also done a little bit of (paid) portrait work. Mostly family portraits for friends and friends of friends. Also did an engagement shoot at the end of the summer. But I've only done about 6 paid shoots. It's fun but a little stressful because you have to deliver the goods! Haha!

I'll PM you my Flickr page Wink
