Clicky 3 months early: dressing up for NYE?

I have officially been "given" NYE & NYD as "my" holiday in the family since the others are taken.  We all know I'm a planner ;)

Re: Clicky 3 months early: dressing up for NYE?

  • I probably shouldn't even have voted.  Now that I'm thinking about it I've been to one NYE party in my adult life.  I was either playing in the band, bartending, on call, or asleep before the ball dropped.  How sad.
  • last NYE was our wedding day - and my wedding shoes were all covered in Swarovski crystals. I want to wear them every NYE now so I'm always going to need something sparkly to wear with them! (i think it might be awkward if i keep wearing my wedding dress every year) hehe....

Have fun planning the party! i have some fun NYE ideas now too if you need any!

  • We are often the NYE hosts and everyone dresses up. It's fun to dress up for NYE and there aren't any lines to get in or at the bar, we're with all of our friends, we love the music, and it never closes! :)
  • I had a NYE party 2 years ago and everyone dressed up (gals were all sparkly) and it was fun!  I would be disappointed if I were invited to a NYE party where we didnt dress up.

  • We usually go halfway with the dressing up (so, like, last year I wore jeans, nice boots, and super sparkly top and earrings). I like having the option, but I don't want to be required to squeeze into a Vegas-y super tight shiny dress...

  • I thought it was a bit much when I met my husband a few years ago but he was the co-host always for their friends NYE parties. Their theory was that if folks were dressed up (most being in their mid-20's), they were less likely to trash someone's home. May not fit the bill for your scenario but over time I loved getting dressed up for that one night and seeing many of the soccer girl friends dressed nicely for once. Just go with it if you do have 1-2 who are just not into that night and wear casual.
  • Last year my friends and I had a "New Years Eve Eve" party because my bestie was flying back home and others were traveling. It was actually really fun, but we were pretty casual- jeans and such. This year I'm hosting on NYE and everyone is staying over because I live along the Rose Parade route so we can roll out of bed in the morning and watch the parade. But with my tiny place and everyone sleeping over, I'm not sure if it would be too much to dress up. But I really, really want to :)

  • I voted for "dress-up"...
  • NYE is personally my FAVORITE night of the year and I always dress up.  Even as a kid when I stayed at home!   This year I'll have a 6ish week old and hope I can still enjoy my fav night and will wear something dressy even if I stay home with just LO and DH.

This is my perfect idea of "dressing up" for NYE too.  After holiday expenses, I don't want to have to go out abd buy special outfits for a big party.

I think dressy jeans and nice tops - for both men and women is easy enough for everyone to put together.  If I were to go this route, I would communicate this dress code word of mouth so no one is too over or under dressed.

It might be fun to have some sparkly party store accessories on-hand for the guests.  For example, think big bling bachelorette party rings and necklaces (in silver, not crazy hot pink) for the ladies and maybe some fake fun sparkly ties/bowties for the guys instead of the usual "Happy 2012 hats"  These would make for some fun photo ops.

Yup, this is us too.  Like normal going-out clothes but cranked up on the sparkle with over-the-top shoes and accessories encouraged.

We spend the night so eventually everyone ends up in sweats and flip flops but at least we all look fab for awhile.Big Smile

Yep, this. I wouldn't want guests to have to spend a bunch of money buying a glitzy cocktail dress, but something a little sparkly is fun!

  • A little sparkle is fun, however, living in MN we've had blizzards and 30 below windchills to contend with many a NYE, so betwen the the treacherous driving and cold temps the older I get the less likely I am to compete with the weather and like to stay in all snuggly warm - with friends and/or family.  I  need to move SOUTH!
