What to give a 3 year old to paint pumpkins?

I told DS he could paint his pumpkins this year, but I really don't know what kind of paint to use. I'm slightly more concerned with getting something that will actually stick and dry properly than be washable. I can always wrap him up in plastic  

I'm guessing Crayola Washable Kids Paint is out? 

I have tons of Apple Barrel acrylics and thought about trying those.

Any suggestions?

I am planning on using Apple Barrel because I too have a ton of it.

I used acrylic last year and it worked fine.  And the pumpkin sat outside all month and it was fine.

I would just use cheap acrylic paint (Apple Barrel is fine), too. It washes off hands pretty easily, will stick well to the pumpkin, and has decent coverage. If you're worried about exposure to rain/snow/elements, a quick spray of a sealer over the design should be fine, too.

I remember using those puff paints that we decorated t-shirts etc. with on my pumpkins when I was a kid but I like the acrylic paint idea too!

We just used the crayola kids paint and it works fine. We had a pumpkin painting party the year we had too many pumpkins in our gardens and all the kids' pumpkins turned out nice and the paint stayed on.
