Nursery help (long with PIPs)

Alright, I have some fabrics I'm using for the nursery (curtain, crib skirt, book slings, and in place of closet doors).  We are not getting a bedding "set".  My MIL Is making a quilt that has the same colors, and I'll just use a few plain sheets.  Here are the fabrics:

I have collected monkeys since I was a kid, so there will be a slight monkey theme, but no monkey fabric or wall decals or anything... just accessories.   Here are a few pieces (I also have two throw pillows of that monkey's face, a fleece blanket that is the same blue with palm trees and bananas, a stuffed monkey, a few picture frames, etc.  They all came together from Target). Sorry they are upside down:

The furniture is white and the wall color is staying (creamy ivory/beige) simply because I wanted a neutral backdrop for the colorful fabrics.  Hard to see in this pic, but here is wall color and white trim.

For my birthday, my mom bought me this rocker BUT you have to order the colored slipcover separately, so I just have the frame. I can't figure out what color to get:

THe problem is, according to the many reviews on the website, the colors are NOT what they look like online.  My choices are as follows:

1. Chocolate brown MICROSUEDE (reviews say it is dark)

image

2. Ivory MICROSUEDE (reviews say it is really white)-ABOVE

3. "Butter" TWILL (but reviews are VERY clear that this slipcover is TAN, not yellow)

4. Denim TWILL

5.  Pink CHENILLE (we are team green, so this is out)

image

6. Green CHENILLE (reviews say it is lighter than photo-really off white with a hint of green)

Thoughts?  I have to order one slipcover, as the seat cushion ships with it.  Right now I'm leaning toward the ivory, if it is almost white, as I can lay the monkey fleece over the back and put the monkey throw pillow on it, but I need another opinion and DH is not helping!

Re: Nursery help (long with PIPs)

  • I love the fabrics that you've picked out- so fun & so bright!  I think that any of the slipcover choices would work, but personally I would go with either the brown or blue.  My guess is that you're planning on hanging on to the rocker for a while, and knowing just how quickly things can get grimy/stained between infant spit up and then sticky toddler hands, I think a darker fabric would hide things better & hold up better in the long run.  Then again, it is just a slip cover, so you could easily replace it down the road I suppose & not have to replace the whole chair, so maybe a lighter one wouldn't matter.  Guess I'm not much help...
  • I think I would also go with the brown.  If its too dark you could put a light colored throw over it.  Plus like MrsL mentioned the darker color will hold up better after years of use.  I also love the colors and fabrics!
  • I love the fabrics that you're using. Very fun, bright, and colorful. I think I would go with the Denim Twill. I really like the idea of the butter, but only if it was a pale yellow and not tan. Good Luck choosing!

    My boring blog
  • I would go with a brown...its a good neutral that won't blend in with your lightly colored walls.  Plus I think it will make the fabric colors really pop.
    Anniversary
  • Definitely the brown for the reasons cited above re: staining and versatility.
