Sorry for more questions- this is my first iPhone (and I had my Gmail and Google Contacts transferred over at the Verizon store)...
1. If I enter a new Google Contact on my PC, how does it get "uploaded" to my iPhone? I tried going under "contacts", and clicking the "refresh" icon, but my new Google Contact is still not showing up.
2. I know iMessage will take precedence over text messaging, but when I'm not in a Wifi zone, it will use my 3G data (of which I don't have unlimited of). However, I do have unlimited text messaging, so this would not deplete my 3G data. Is there any way I can change a setting to prefer text messaging vs. iMessage?
3. Facetime- Can I Facetime via Gmail only if the person on the other end has a camera on their laptop or PC? How can I tell if they have a video camera set up on laptop/PC to Facetime? Do I need to be on Wifi network to FaceTime (or even Skype?)
4. iCloud- I have been reading it and I like the concept, but do I need to have the device (iPhone or iPad) plugged into a wall adapter for it to wirelessly sync? And when I do have it plugged in, how do I get stuff to sync? Am I able to pick and choose what to sync via iCloud?
5. Is there an alert to tell me if my data is getting close?

Do you have your contacts synced with gmail through Exchange?
Here's how I have it syncing... you can turn off Mail and Calendars and set them up separately if you just want ontacts synced through Exchange.

Do you mean Hangout on Google+? They do need a webcam. You need wifi to FaceTime with another iPhone/iPad/iPod, but you can Hangout on Google+ on 3G or wifi.
