Anyone here a hardcore nature person? (XP)
My
sister is looking for teaching/instructor/tour guide jobs at nature
centers or the like. I know sometimes zoos have areas like this too.
Does
anyone know of good websites that are geared to finding positions like
these? I just didn't know if there was a specific place where these were
often posted, or if Career Builder or Monster is just as good of a
place to look.
She has her masters in Biology Education and has
worked part time at different nature centers and a bird rescue in the
past but its just hard to find something year-round there.
Shes in NC right now but would move to pretty much anywhere between there and NY if needed.

There is an Association of Nature Center that post job listings. She could also become a member.

The zoos also have a membership groups, along with Botanical Gardens. I would encourage her to look at all these groups' websites and see if there is any email list she could belong to.
I know in Michigan there is a group of Outdoor Educators, she could check in her state to see if there is one.

Specific to horticulture, but may be valuable to someone with her credentials.

Also check with organizations like national and local Audubon chapters, and The Nature Conservancy. Not a great time for government jobs, but state and national parks hire rangers and educators - those jobs will be on the state or fed site.
It is a tough gig...plenty of low paying, no benefits seasonal internships. Not too many full time jobs that provide a livable wage, esp for a family.
