Special Gift

I'm looking for ideas of a special gift to get my grandmother. My grandfather passed away a year ago in October. They were married for 62 years!! And good websites with gift ideas? I have many pictures of them throughout the years due to making a calender for they 60th Anniversary.

Thanks!

Re: Special Gift

  • What about scanning them all in and making a shutterfly book?

Ditto this!  I did a family photo book on shutterlfy a few years ago for my grandma and she loved it :)

Otherwise, and "experience" or food would be other suggestions.  Maybe do a big basket filled with her favorite foods?

This is what came to mind.

Also, how about make a "gift card" for taking her out to lunch.

At that age, what they appreciate the most, is the gift of your time spent with them.

  • When my grandmother lost her husband, a gift like that would have been very very very difficult on her. I think that the idea is great but that this may not be the right time.

We got her more items for her to be independent and things she wanted and enjoyed alone.

Sitting in a reminder of what she had lost was not what she needed at that time.

Like the PP stated - time with her, doing things for her and with her may be best.

  • Our family had some words made out of our pictures... like this:

Then when it was nicely framed and matted it was a really special gift.

Another thing I saw around on blogs was a lady who made a christmas platter out of the handwriting of her mother.

She had saved a box that her mom had written "Christmas" on. She traced the words using some type of plastic and then epoxyed it onto a platter. Because the plastic was clear you couldn't even tell. It looked like it was written right on the platter. Maybe if you had any of your grandfather's handwriting you could blow it up on a copier and do something similiar?
