Thank you so much for all the information regarding San Antonio. Do you by chance have any hotel recommendations? We ideally are hoping to stay near the river walk? Do you agree that would be the best location to stay near? Also, would we need a rental car to get around or are things accessible by foot?

Re: cnstarz

  • You're welcome!  I don't know what price range you're looking at- we're super cheap over in these parts.  H once got a room at the Crowne Plaza on Priceline and we enjoyed it.  I'm very partial to the Drury, although it's not a 5 star hotel by any means.  It looks like there's now an Omni on the Riverwalk, which is probably very nice.  During high school, I spent a few nights at the Hilton on the Riverwalk and it was fine.

And yes, most tourists like to stay at the Riverwalk. Lodging/food is more expensive there, but it's a neat place to stay/drink/walk around.

I would go ahead and get a rental car because a lot of the neat things to do/places to eat are driving distance away (the Botanical gardens, missions, etc.).  I think a day trip out to Gruene would be fun (about 45 miles away, if memory serves) for some good food, a quaint town, and the oldest continuously operating dance hall in Texas.  :)  And no trip to SA is complete without breakfast tacos at Taco Taco, which is a few miles north of downtown.  I can't remember whether the Tower of the Americas is on the Riverwalk, but it's another neat place to go.

I'd doublecheck hotels on Tripadvisor because it's been a few years since I've been out that way.
