Just curious on what everyone's opinion is on this.
A while back Rick Scott created a website with state employee's salaries. He recently added all university employees as well.
I'm personally not a fan of my salary being public for everyone to see. Stupid me looked at the list and it was disappointing to see that I was getting paid a good bit less than people who are in the same job as me.
So, how do you feel about state employee's salaries being posted for everyone to see?
Re: State Employees Salary
I'm pretty sure it's always been public knowledge, but it was a lot harder to find prior to Rick Scott. He created a website which put it all in one place.
When I was a student employee at UNF, our pay was always very public. It was published in the school newspaper every few months and available online. I have no problem with this.
I don't know where I would fit into this because I am state funded, but not a state employee.. I don't think this applies to me, though.
I don't have a problem with it in theory, because I would actually love to know what some other ppl who are gaming the system in my same position are actually making.
I can see how socially speaking, I might not be thrilled that my mother in law or my neighbor knew my salary.. but that would be part of the pros/cons consideration for any job in my mind.
I don't have a problem with it if all pay grades were universal across the board regarding experience. I can imagine it could be a problem if employee A and employee B have the same amount of experience, but B is getting paid more than A and now they both easily know it.
I have no problem with this. It should be public record if it's publicly funded.
Making this information easier to access is the least of Rick Scott's sins.
The newspaper in Jacksonville provided a link to a city/state employee salary database 4-5 years ago.
I think if that if it is readily available knowledge, the job codes should have similar pay. Not exactly the same pay, but within the same range.
Both of these are my thoughts exactly.
I agree with this as well.
Does the website give a range of salaries for the different jobs or does it say Navybaby makes $XX? With my employer we have pay grades that have salary ranges and that's easy to look up within our company. I'm okay with that but I don't really think it's necessary for someone to know down to the cent my exact salary.
It gives the university the person works for, their name, job title, department, FTE, and exact salary.
