WWND

I have cavities on three different sides of my mouth.  Both rt and lt on the bottom and upper right.  Would you get all three filled at once (1.5 hr appt) or spread them out?

Anyone ever used nitrous oxide at the dentist?

If you need a filling, how long is it usually until your next appt?

Re: WWND

  • I used to religiously use nitrous oxide for all appointments, until I started going to Shannon's dentist.  Good stuff.  :)

If it were me, I would get each side done at a different time, so I didn't have to deal with two shots in one day.  Plus, then at least half of my mouth wouldn't be numb.  :)

I'd do it in 2 visits. Do one side one time and the other the next time. Do two at the first visit so it's all downhill from there. I would not do a whole numb mouth at once.

I've never done the nitrous oxide so I have nothing to add there.

  • I would get it all done at once.  I hate hate hate the numb mouth feeling, so I would only want to have it once.
  • I'd do it all at once just because I would want to get it over with.

  • So, I got like 8 cavities all at once, and they were my first EVER.

I got them done in 3 visits. It wasnt that bad.  I was scared beyond belief, (yeah im a baby).  I'd do it all at once.

    Edit...

Ok reading this makes me sound really scuzzy.  I promise I do brush and floss and listerine!!!!!!!!!!  :)  I went 25 yrs  w/o a single cavity!

  • I would do it all at once. I HATE the dentist. I had teeth pulled before I got braces and they did them all at once. It sucks but I'd rather have my whole mouth numb for a couple hours than have to go back and get it done twice.
  • all at once
  • I guess it would depend on whether or not I had to back to work, or out in public with a mouth I couldn't move...or if I planned on eating/drinking anytime right after.  :)  I'd probably opt for two visits...and I would assume you coud do it as soon as the next day if you wanted??

  • I would get it done all at once too...I have had some pretty horrible dental experiences b/c I had pneumonia when I was little and the medicine they used to give you wrecks your teeth even undeveloped ones.  My first time to the dentist I had 7 fillings and fell asleep in the dental chair!

A hint that I have found helpful is to listen to music during the fillings...the noise is what bothers me the most.   I go to the dentist tomorrow b/c I am having a problem with one of my teeth and I just dread it!!

  • I would get it all done at once & go home and nap off the numbness if you could.
