Last year during mid-October some friends and I went to a pumpkin patch, and then I hosted a pumpkin carving afternoon which was super fun.  There were still probably two weeks until Halloween, and I didn't want my pumpkin to fill with spiders, so I kept it on my kitchen counter until Halloween.

Yeah.

It was in a far corner of my kitchen, it wasn't in my way or anything, so life was good....  and the day before Halloween I decided it was time to put the pumpkin outside.  Sad sad moment, my pumpkin who was looking all awesome?  He was moldy inside.  He spent Halloween in my garbage. 

I learned my lesson.  Carved pumpkins should not be kept for extended periods of time on my kitchen counter.

I would carve pumpkins if someone cleaned out the guts for me. That's the part I hate the most.

I'm actually having a pumpkin carving party the weekend before so I chose a week prior.  Last year the party was two weekends prior and the jack-o-lantern didn't fare too well past the first week.

I don't carve every year. We were in Magnolia for 2 years and there was no good place to put our pumpkin outside so we didn't bother. I usually do sometime of 1 week to a few days before. I've tried the spraying the inside with hairspray and with acrylic sealant and neither helped retard the mold. Maybe one of the few things I hate about the PNW - it's so damp our pumpkins don't last long!

We carve every year. It's so much fun! We carve exactly a week before Halloween.

We'll probably carve once the baby's old enough to care, lol. These days, though, we don't bother.
