Anyone have an IUD?

I'm trying to decide between Mirena and Paraguard once LO gets here.  I've spoken to my OB and read through the information on both, but I'm still stuck.  Anyone have personal experience with either?

I have Mirena and I love it.  For the first 6 weeks, I had pretty heavy bleeding.  After that, I had a period every couple of weeks.  They were very light, but annoying.  After the first 6 months, I only have a very light (read I might use 2 tampons durring one day) period every couple of months.  I like that I don't have to worry about taking a pill.  I don't have to worry about my period on a vacation.  Do you have any questions that you want to ask?

Is the bleeding predictable now or does it just start and stop randomly? Any side effects now?

The bleeding isn't really predictable, but I can kind of tell when it's coming.  Honestly, it isn't anything more than spotting. 

The only side effect I really have is that I get a bit anxious about things that don't normally bother me.  It isn't to a point that I feel crazy or that I need medication.  I just tell myself to stop freaking out, take a breath and drive on.

Awesome about the spotting.  Do you think it's the hormones that cause the anxiety?  I don't think I've had issues with hormones before

I have Mirena I love it. The first time was after I had my son and I never had a period or spotting it was awesome. My cycle went back to normal as soon as it was removed. I got it taken out when we decided to have another, It was removed in May and I was pregnant in July. I got a second one after my daughter was born 3 years ago and never have a full blown period just spotting for a week once a month  or once every 2 months.

I've never had this issue on any other hormone before.  I'm not sure what it is.  I've had a few other friends who have noticed a similar issue.  My doc says it is a common complaint she has heard.  It is weird, though.  I don't get anxious over normal things.  I have always wanted to be a certified diver.  H and I went to start and I had a panic attack about it.  Everytime I've started thinking about doing it again, panic attack.  I had no issue about snorkling, just the scuba diving.

I got mine out a year early because I've had no sex drive for a couple years.  That didn't matter when H and I were living apart, but we're together again, so I thought I might as well try going hormone free for awhile and see if that helps.

I forgot that Mirena was suppose to stay in for 5 years? I'm thankful for this thread; an IUD is something I'm considering after this babe. But we're still not decided if we're going to try for a 3rd. Things to consider I suppose.

I've had issues with low drive on BC pills.  I had a low drive for the first few months with this one, but I have no issue now.

I had the Paraguard IUD for 3 years and got pregnant with it.  It was a huge surprise and we're happy about it. (see siggy lol)  My OB/GYN said the rate of "surprise" pregnancies with IUDs is a lot lower with the Mirena.

 I have the Mirena and love it too.  I got is when I was still nursing so I didn't have heavy bleeding.  Now my periods only last 2 days or so.
