quick, easy, painless favor...

Hello,

I see you all get lots of posts like this. DH and I are planning a move to AZ (Surprise area) in about a year. We're from NE Indiana, so it isn't a short weekend trip for us. I've done all kinds of Google searches on the area, but I was wondering if you could recommend any sites or blogs that will help me get an idea of the area. I checked out the page that has a link to the Nestie blogs, so that has helped (I love all of your blogs, btw).

We're not planning to move completely blind. We're going to make a trip down in May to visit and then hopefully move shortly after.

I would appreciate any info you could share with me. Again, I see you get posts like this a lot, so sorry if this feels repetitious.

Yeah, it's from forever ago... I can't remember who did it, or to contact to get yours added.  I wanna say maybe Heather?  Sweetie something or other?  I might be making that up though lol

LOL Taylor, I was thinking the same thing! haha

  • Hmm that blog needs to be updated doesn't lol.

As far as your question, the city of surprise website would probably give you some good info on the area and what it has to offer.  Other then that all I can say is that I live in Surprise and I love it, while it is a fairly large city, it has a small town feel which both DH and I love.  It does get a little crowded with snowbirds during the cooler months but I don't mind it all that much.

  • Well welcome to this board. I dont live in that area but a few girls do, (one is on vacation right now) but I am sure they will come in and help. I do know they like it out there. Like LuvNCupcakes said, its not big but small enough. There are a lot of snowbirds but thats pretty much everywhere. Hope you find more info on that place.

Yep! Pretty much what Jenn said :-)

I also live in Surprise. We relocated here from the Boston area umm a little over 2 years ago. It is TOTALLY different then Boston but I love it so much. It took some getting used to but now it's great. It is starting to get super busy out here now that the snowbirds are back but it's not to bad if you avoid Bell as much as possible haha!  I think with the new Walmart going up and the other stores off of the 303 it will take some of the traffic off of Bell.

  • I live in Surprise as well and you can't really go wrong here, in my opinion. All the neighborhoods are fairly new and they all seem well-kept to me. I would avoid living in the El Mirage area right next door though, as it seems to largely be a lower income, higher crime area, even though you can get some larger houses for less money in that city.

Surprise is filled with grocery stores on every other corner, a Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Petsmart, Micheals, Pier One, Best Buy, etc. There are also tons of restaurants (Applebees, Chilis, Outback, TGI Fridays, Olive Garden, Red Lobster etc) as well as all the fast food joints and a lot of non-chain restaurants. The nearest mall is about a 15-25 minute drive (depending on the time of year and amount of snowbirds). But the good thing about the snowbirds is that there is a wonderful hospital just north of Surprise in Sun City and plenty of other doctors offices in the area.

The freeways are a bit out of the way to get to (about a 15 minute drive), but they are currently turning State Route 303 into a freeway that will connect to Interstate-10 in the South and up to Interstate 17 in the north. And in the coming years there will also be a freeway connection from the Loop 101 freeway to the Loop 303 along what is currently Northern Avenue, so just south of Surprise. This probably doesn't mean much to you but I think it's good to know that Surprise is expanding! There are also plans for a mall and new shopping centers on the Southwest corner of Surprise (http://www.prasada.com/experience.aspx), although they've been talking about it for awhile from what I understand. However the new Walmart is almost done so hopefully it will bring more!

Anyways this got long but I hope it helped a little! Good luck!
