I overheated my laptop yesterday and it wont turn on =( very sad, and panicked considering I'm on a work deadline right now. So we need a new computer. Dh is really wanting a desktop so he has the option of working from home 1 day a week. We went to bestbuy and they seem to have these all in ones. Are they any good? It seems more space efficient, and space is an issue right now!

Re: anyone computer savy?
Yeah, why does he need a desktop to work from home? I work from home all the time with a laptop and it's much more convenient. It doesn't take up a lot of space, you can work with it from anywhere in the house, and you still have the portability that you lack with a desktop.
I can't really make any recommendations in terms of a PC. I just got a MacBook Air a couple of months ago and I'm never going back to a PC. They're expensive but so worth it IMO because I can see myself working with this computer for a long time (while the PC laptops I've had were cheaper but only lasted about 3 years without starting to break down).
the type of work he does on it, he needs a large screen and a work area. he reviews a lot of building plans and such.
Oh, and I agree that PC's are generally cheap crap. DH's computer is newer than mine and many of his keyboard letters are not still visible.
space is an issue right now, so I'm not sure getting another thing is a smart decision. The last few weeks I have been leaving the laptop on the dining table and working from there anyhow. so I'm not sure I would hate a desktop. It would probably last longer since I wouldn't be so rough with it
I know I'm harping, but with a laptop, you can stow it away easily (and the monitor and keyboard can be put in the bottom of the closet and only brought out when DH is WFH). Can't do that with a desktop. Do you have space to permanently allocate to the desktop? I'm assuming that place wouldn't be on the dining room table so think about how comfortable and convenient that location is. Also, think about how your use is going to change when you've got babes in arms (or attached) I did a lot of typing while BFing.
I just feel like with your space issue, a laptop is the way to go.
I think we have definitely decided to not do the laptop, especially with overheating issues and I what I will be using is for
