Do you feel like these really work?
I am still trying to figure out some options for my escape artist dog Soleil. I mentioned in my other post that I felt that when she tries to escape, its not a fear thing, its more like she is being defiant and REALLY just wants to run around. Its been hard to train her outside because its like she "shuts off" and concentrates on escaping or hunting small animals. (we have a groundhog problem in our neighborhood)
It has been suggested to me to get something like the Anxiety Wrap to calm her down during walks. I am getting a little tired of spending $40 here and $40 there on things that promise to work but don't.
If you have an opinion on them, please let me know.
Re: Anyone have thundershirt or Anxiety Wrap?
So far thank you ladies for the feedback. I really hope she grows out of this stage fast.
We bought a thundershirt for our new puppy because she was having separation anxiety from her foster home and barking through the night. The first night we put it on her, she slept through the night! I was skeptical, but it does seem to help!
Good Luck!

from what you've said, i dont think it sounds like anxiety as much as she's just blowing you off. at her next mealtime, go outside with her on leash and bring HIGH value treats. for my dogs...i would break out the fried chicken, their fav food in the whole wide world.
just hang out outside, and reward her for paying attention to you. she doesn't have to do anything..just any time she looks at you, she gets a yummy.
Have you seen my monkey?
this is definetly do-able! thanks!
This helped tremendously with Bently. Except he got bits of hotdog and apple.
I don't know if it will help with walking - I would just wait to work on commands once she is really worn down and willing to listen a bit better so you can reward good behaviour.
That being said, we've had great success with The Anxiety Wrap with our large fear aggressive hound and the anxious visually impaired doxie foster.
Rather than an anxiety wrap, how about having her carry a backpack when you walk her?
That way she could have a job, get tired faster (a huge plus), and you'd have another handle to hold on to if she tried to get away.
Yes, I can tell you about these products. I am a professional trainer and have used the Anxiety Wrap on my own dog as well as with my clients' dogs that have fear and anxiety. The results are remarkable!
The Anxiety Wrap is the original patented pressure wrap designed for dogs - and cats - by certified professional dog trainer, Susan Sharpe. It works in two ways - by applying maintained pressure and by applying pressure to acupressure points in the dog's neck, chest, shoulders, belly, mid-section and rear legs.
The Anxiety Wrap provides more maintained pressure than any other product currently on the market.
One of my clients purchased a Thundershirt by mistake and we did not see any effect from the product. However, when we applied the Face Wrap, produced by the Anxiety Wrap company, we saw a remarkable reduction in anxious barking. My client said she saw a greater reduction in her dog's fearful behavior with the Face Wrap than the Thundershirt.
In a recent study conducted by veterinarian Dr. Nicholas Dodman at the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine the Anxiety Wrap was found to be 89% effective in dogs affected by Thunderstorm phobia.
That said, it does not sound like your dog has an anxiety problem so much as a training issue. Based on what you write I think you would derive the most benefit from enrolling your dog in training classes or private lessons with a good, reward-based trainer!
No anti-anxiety agent will reduce anxiety when there is no anxiety present. Just as an experiment one day I put the Anxiety Wrap on a dog that was extremely active but not anxious and there was no change in behavior.
I hope this helps!
Spend your money on good training! There is no short cut - there is nothing you can buy to facilitate training and make it go any faster - except maybe a clicker - go find a professional clicker trainer! A good place to start is the Karen Pryor Academy website - call though because not all graduates and Certified Training Partners pay the annual dues required to be listed on the site.
