I'm curious what's worse:

When moving to a new house, what would you consider to be worse:

Packing your house

Unpacking your house

I'm really HATING the packing process right now and feel like unpacking may be much easier. I don't remember it being difficult to unpack here, other than I knew where nothing was because we didn't pack our stuff (company paid for them to pack and unpack- but we opted out for the unpacking because we didn't want everything unpacked here).

Re: I'm curious what's worse:

  • I think packing is MUCH worse than unpacking!

  • Packing is absolutely worse!!!  Although, I do like the feeling that I'm purging crap that I don't need!

  • Packing for sure.  I like unpacking because it gives me the opportunity to reorganize everything.

  • I think packing is worse.  I don't mind unpacking because I enjoy the sense of making the space my own, but packing is just brutal!

  • I keep thinking about that since I hope in the next couple of years we'll be able to move from our condo to a house.  I think for me unpacking would be worse because I would need more time to take it out & then think where I want to put things.  Packing for me would be just putting stuff in a box as much as I can & call it good.  Of course packing the breakable items would be a pain!

  • Packing is definitely worse, I hate packing.
  • Packing, because you essentially end up cleaning through your junk at the same time.  If you don't do that, then I guess unpacking would be.  When FI moved into my house, we just threw everything in boxes.  We still have boxes of what I like to refer to as "crap" in the basement because I don't feel like sorting through his junk. lol

  • I hate unpacking for some reason. Figuring out where I want to keep stuff in my new location, all the trash/recycling mess to haul out, etc.

I like packing because I can do it slowly over time and it gives me the opportunity to purge since I have a tendency to keep stuff "just in case".

  • Packing is definately worse.  I remember thinking to myself last year when we moved, "Where did all this crap come from?"  I felt like I wasnt ever going to get it all packed.

I really enjoyed unpacking though, organizing the house and making it our own.

  • Oh...I hate to say it but I think they're both TERRIBLE!  Packing sucks but like PP said, I do like the feeling of purging.  Unpacking sounds exciting until you're faced with where to put all of your crap.  Maybe this was just my experience and I should take the hint that we didn't purge enough! Big Smile

  • I think unpacking is the worst.. packing you can throw things out that you didn't know you had... take your time.  When you have to unpack most of the time you are at the point that you just want to be done with the move and it seems to take soo long!

Maybe that's way after 6 years in our house we still have boxes in the attic!

  • I just went through this and I have to agree that packing was way worse than unpacking!

  • Packing!  I'm always freaked at what will get broken in the transition.

  • Ugh.  Both were equally annoying for me.  If I had to choose though, I'd say that packing was worse only because I had to wrap everything up so it wouldn't get damaged.  It was just more time consuming.

  • That is a tough one. I didn't have to pack my stuff to move in to our current house, my brother and his girlfriend did it while I was gone on my honey moon. He wanted to move into my bedroom. His girlfriend ended up buying a house 3 months later and he ended up moving in with her---he never made it to my old room. The worst part of unpacking everything was not knowing where stuff was because I didn't pack it and then trying to find places to keep it in this house. I actually still have stuff in totes in the garage.

If we were talking about packing for a trip or unpacking after I definitely hate packing! I'd rather unpack and do 20 loads of laundry than pack. Big Smile
