Any teachers on this board?

I'm hoping there are a few teachers on this board, we only have a few on the GR board and I can email them personally.

How much do you typically pay for CEUs?  How much would you be willing to pay for a 2.5 week course (meets all day and into evening).  We are thinking that it will be worth 10 CEUs (at least that is what I'm being told. We are working with a college right now to get that figured out).  It is an ecology course for pre-service and in-service teachers. It would be great for those without a good science background teaching a science class in elementary schools.   Also, students live on-site at our facility, so there is an extra fee for room and board.

If others in different fields take CEU, please feel free to chime in the  going rate for credits.

Thanks for your imput.

Re: Any teachers on this board?

  • We pay $2.50 for each in-service/ prof development that is offered through our school.  It is the same for a .5 or a 3 credit CEU, as long as it is the same topic.  I can't help you with a conference type price for CEUs, I have never paid attention.

I would not go to a 2.5 week seminar that was only 10 CEUs.  I completed 6 credit hours in two weeks last summer for my certificate renewal and this sounds like more work for less return.  As a teacher my time is more valuable than the cost.  If the class was the same number as CEUs as 6 credit hours, I would do it, and pay a large sum of money because it sounds like a good useful topic.  (I teach HS physics so teaching any science topic to teachers sounds great to me!)  :)

    Good luck!

Thanks for the input.  The class used to be geared towards only pre-service teachers (and will still be so). I believe the class is worth 4 college credits.  I will double check on how many CEUs the class is going to be worth, maybe I was given the wrong info.  The director of that program is handling all that, I will just do the marketing for the class. Our director asked me to ask around with teachers I know on how much they would be willing to spend.

The 6 credit hours that you completed last year - was that a college class? For those credits can they be an undergrad class or do they have to be grad level?
