I am in charge of doing center pieces for my friends baby shower in 2 weeks, I was thinking small mum plants would be super cute with just a cute pink bow.
There is a farmers market in RO on Saturdays I was thinking about stopping and seeing if any farms would do a order from some and I could pick them up the following saturday, but just in case that doesn't work, any suggestions on where to get them at a reasonable price?
Re: Where to buy mums
How many do you need?
I would check local garden centers. I'm not really sure which ones there are in Royal Oak. Bordine's and English Gardens generally have really nice mums at a reasonable (or slightly high but not rediculous) price. Smaller garden centers will have cheaper ones. Farmers market sounds like a good start but they may or may not have the quantity/color you need available when you need it - kind of a toss up.
Good luck! I love living plants as shower centerpieces. They make good give-aways/game prizes
I think I am only going to need like 6 or 7, and I would really like to get them in a deep purple color. I think I will start at the farmers market and then see.
Mums are a pretty sturdy plant, I could get them this saturday and just put them on my porch for the week and not kill them right?

Oh yeah, they'll be fine...

In that case, farmer's market should work out great! If you had needed like 30 that might have been an issue
They'll be totally fine on your porch for a week. I wouldn't get them more than a week in advance though just in case they start to fade. The flowers only stay a couple of weeks usually.
I've gotten them at Home Depot in the past, but this year I got some from ACO hardware for $5 each and have been really happy with them. I believe they had the dark purple color you're looking for.
You said "small mums" so I'm not sure what size you're looking for exactly. These had a 9" pot I believe, which is about average in my opinion. I've never seen any smaller.
They're definitely a hardy plant though, so they'd be fine on your porch.
I don't know. DH bought some for our front porch a week before Peyton's 1 year photo session. Long story short, we had to steal my neighbors mum's the day of the shoot because I had already killed ours.
