Planning Ahead...

So, DH is 2 classes away from having his master's degree.  He will be done at the end of March.  Because he's taking from a non-traditional program, there is no graduation ceremony.  He takes the last class and once they give his final grade, they send him his degree.

I would like to acknowledge this accomplishment (it's taken him 3 1/2 years to complete) with a gathering of friends at our house to celebrate.  I would prefer to do it in March or April, instead of waiting for his actual degree, but still want people to know it's in honor of his accomplishment.  I don't (and I know he wouldn't either) want them to bring him gifts, just to celebrate with us.

Any suggestions/help are appreciated on everything from food to decorations to what time and day.  Thanks!

Re: Planning Ahead...

  • How many people are you looking at?  How formal?  Is the Masters something specific or an MBA?

March and April is the start of graduation season anyway so I'm sure you could get some of that sort of decoration.  Or you could do things in his school colors, but since it's non-traditional that may not apply.

  • DH planned a surprise party for me the day after I finished my MBA. It was awesome!  He didn't plan anything other than inviting friends, so he just got out sodas and snacks we had and ordered some pizzas. We had a great time:)

Sorry I'm just getting back to you.  My computer froze while trying to respond on Friday.

I'm looking at around 10 people, including him and I.  Very informal.  He will have his Master's of Education, but not in a specific part of education.

Thanks for the tip about decorations.  While the school he's graduating from doesn't have colors, I could do the decorations in the colors of the school he teaches at.
