this is a wolf spider http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_spider
I second funnel weaver, but it could be a hobo spider too. I originally thought that it was a wolf spider, but the spinerettes are so distinct, which is why I think it's a funnel weaver.
Are there multiple chevron patterns on the abdomen? The picture doesn't show it well. If so, it could be a hobo, but those are more commonly found in the northwest (CO to OR).
