I need gift suggestions please.
I need gift suggestions for Christmas for DH's niece (she will be 18 in Jan.). Unfortunately, she seems to be heading down a path in life that Im sad about. She wont be going to college, and may not even graduate high school. She smokes and drinks (her mother obviously doesnt care). Usually I get her tons of clothes from trendy stores at the mall, but I found out recently she just gives them away to her friends.
I really don't know what we could get her. So far, I found a tye dye kit and DH had previously bought her college prep books. The most we would want to spend would be $50 tops (we have a really tight budget this year). At this age and point in her life, what could we get her? Any suggestions?

Does she have any hobbies you know of? If she likes to draw or paint, you can go to a craft store and get some really nice brushes or pencils along with other supplies?
18 is so hard to shop for especially if her life is difficult to begin with. My other suggestion is if you and her are close, maybe do a girls day and go to a store and see if she'll tell you if she likes anything or buy it early as a Christmas present?
We usually get DH's niece who's 18 a general mall gift card. That way she can shop at whatever store she wants. Does she get her nails done - what about a gift certificate to her nail place if she does? Does she like movies - how about movie gift cards? Or even just Starbucks cards if she's a coffee drinker.
It's funny you mention this...the little brat is actually demanding that MIL buy her a car for her birthday in January. She looked me stone cold in the face and said it was all she wanted.
Im just going to stick with practical stuff I guess (gloves, scarf, socks). I have done the GC route, and she never uses them unfortunately.
Im kinda pissed off right now bc DH just paid for her to take an ACT test last weekend, and she didnt go. So, with that money down the drain DH wants to spend as little as possible on her now.
