I was thinking about making some infused vodka for Christmas gifts. Have any of you tried this? Any recipe reccommendations? Does it matter what type of vodka (cheap or not)?
TIA!
Re: XP: infused vodka
I've never done this...but a quick google search turned up Cranberry Infused Vodka and one with cinnamon sticks, for Christmas varieties.
This website sounded helpful..
and here is the cranberry one

jumped ship to the new and improved nest. back to TB for baby boards.
I've done blueberry infused vodka and white currant infused whiskey. It's really, really easy to do.
For the alcohol I used a mid-grade alcohol, since I knew that we'd be mixing stuff in to the drinks. If I were going to drink the infused vokda, straight up, I'd use a higher grade alcohol.
Then, I just washed all of the fruit and threw it in a big glass jar with the fifth of alcohol. Then, I stuck it in a closet and waited about 3 weeks. Then I strained everything out and rebottled the alcohol. It's super easy and yummy.
wow, way easier than i thought! i kinda wanna do this for people for xmas.. so what kind of glass jar?? with a big lid?

DH infuses vodka for the blue drink we serve at our Oktoberfest. He uses Burnett's Vodka (which can leave a bit of a rubbing alcohol smell/taste, so only use if you know what else is being mixed with it. In our case, the other ingredients in the drink covered it just fine.) He infused it with coriander and a hint of cloves and chamomile.
Depends on what you're infusing for how long it takes. DH's concoction works great with only 5 day infusion, but coriander is also super strong.
