Short girls, where do you buy pants?
I'm so sick of this. I have two pairs of pants I need to get hemmed and I can't even pin them because I'm dealing with about six inches of leftover fabric on wide-legged pants. I want to buy pants that don't need to be hemmed. I'm 5'1. Where do you buy pants that you don't have to get hemmed?
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.
Re: Short girls, where do you buy pants?
I'm 5'1" and just get them hemmed. I find that often the petite pants are too short and made for someone under 5'. I do have some good luck at Ann Taylor loft in their petite section though.
But really I'll just buy pants and have them hemmed. Nordstrom will hem pants for free if you purchase there. They have the seamstress come to your dressing room to mark them so you don't have to do anything extra just return to the store to pick them up.
Yeah this is what I do too. You can find decently priced pants there and the hemming is free. It ends up not being that much more expensive than buying pants elsewhere and paying for the alteration elsewhere.
I hate to break it to you but I doubt you will find pants that will never be hemmed. It is just the way it is.
Nordstroms and Nordstrom's Rack are places. Also, Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft. Also, I go to my local seamstress who will charge me about $8-$10 to get my pants hemmed.
I usually have to have my pants hemmed (5'2.75"). The only ones I remember not having to have hemmed would be Lands End or pants I wear with high heels.
Thanks ladies. I will check out these places and the suggestions I got over on the fashion board. I'm thinking I may also just whack off a few inches and then try to pin the ones I have. Hopefully that will make them less unruly because, even with dh's help, we couldn't pin them. I can't wait til wide leg pants go out of style.
Are Nordstrom pants affordable? I guess I always kind of rule them out because most of their online prices are $$$$. We don't have one here (just a Rack). Do you know how long the alterations take? I could go to one while we're out of town, but only if the alterations are done in about a day.
I feel ya, and some Nordstrom pants ARE a lot of money. But they do have sales, clearance racks, and even regularly priced stuff that is decently priced. I've bought several pairs of work pants there that are great. Just go in and ask one of the sales people for the kind of pants you're looking for in your budget and they'll help you find some options (or make an appointment with a personal shopper ahead of time -- it's free and there's no minimum to buy -- and they will have stuff pulled for you when you get there, fetch other sizes/colors/styles for you, and spend your appointment time focused just on you and what you need.)
Keep in mind that they will charge you to hem pants that are on sale (at least that's been my experience) but not full price pants. I've found it to be a comparable price to what I would pay a good seamstress, the work they do is good, and it saves me time to do it in-house, so I don't mind that too much.
As far as how long it takes, they usually want a couple of days, especially if they are in the middle of a big sale and very busy. BUT, I have asked several times for them to do it same day or within a day, and they can generally get it done for you. A couple of times, I got jeans hemmed within the hour.
